December 2015: IDC released a quarterly update to their Worldwide Quarterly Server Tracker, citing market share figures for the 3rd calendar quarter of 2015 (3Q15).

Consider these telling facts:

Fact 1: Hewlett Packard Enterprise continues to lead in the worldwide server market by revenue. HPE is the undisputed #1 in worldwide revenue for the 7th consecutive quarter.

From the #1 position HPE grew total server revenue at a rate of 9.0% year-over-year. HPE’s worldwide revenue share was 27.5% increasing the gap with #2, Dell to 9.4 percentage points.
HPE gained more server revenue, year-over-year, than Cisco, Dell, IBM + Lenovo combined, Oracle and the ODM direct category.

 

Fact 2: For 13.5 consecutive years, 54 straight quarters, HPE is the #1 vendor in worldwide server shipments.

HPE shipped almost 5 servers per minute on average in the 3rd calendar quarter of 2015.

 

Fact 3: HPE leads the total Blade server market with a #1 position in both revenue and units.

HPE has led the Blade server market in revenue and units for 9 years straight, 36 consecutive quarters. HPE gained 2.9 percentage points of revenue share sequentially (QoQ) while Cisco and Dell lost revenue share during the same time.

 

Fact 4: HPE is again #1 in Density Optimized servers.

HPE grew revenue in density-optimized servers by 37.2%, year-over-year, gaining 5.6 points of revenue share to a total of 29.7% worldwide. Dell lost 12.8 points of revenue share year-over-year.

 

Fact 5: HPE leads in combined Density Optimized and Blade servers.

HPE is #1 in revenue market share and leads its closest competitor, Cisco, by 16.5 percentage points. This segment is identified by IDC as a significant and growing market driven by demand in public cloud hyperscale environments, as well as private cloud and integrated systems. 1

 

Fact 6: HPE ProLiant is the x86 server market share leader in both revenue and units for 78 consecutive quarters, 19.5 consecutive years. [2]

Sustained market leadership is a hallmark of HPE ProLiant innovation. HPE grew x86 server revenue 11.9% year-over-year. HPE’s #1 position for revenue share, 30.3%, is 9.1 points higher than #2 Dell and 21.1 percentage points more than #3 Lenovo.

 

Fact 7: HPE leads in EPIC+RISC Blade server revenue.

HPE Integrity blades maintained the number one position in revenue for the RISC+EPIC blade segment with 86.7% worldwide share.

 

Fact 8: HPE is #1 in Windows® revenue and units worldwide.

HPE has a 36.2% revenue share of the Windows market and leads the nearest competitor, Dell, by 9.7 percentage points.

 

Fact 9: HPE is #1 in Linux® revenue and units worldwide.

HPE has a 20.8% revenue share of the Linux market and leads the nearest competitor, Dell, by 8.0 percentage points.

 

Fact 10: For the 3 major operating environments UNIX, Windows and Linux combined (representing 99.9% of all servers shipped worldwide), HPE is number 1 worldwide in server revenue and unit shipments.
