HP Enhances Manufacturers’ Visibility Across Global Supply Chain
PALO ALTO, Calif. — HPtoday announced a new enhancement to the HP Compliance DataExchange (CDX) that will enable manufacturers to accurately andefficiently report the presence of conflict minerals from theDemocratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and adjoining countries intheir supply chains.
Publicly traded companieswithin the United States must file a declaration with the U.S.Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) by May 31, 2014, reportingtheir usage and sourcing of tin, tungsten, tantalum and gold duringthe 2013 calendar year.
Manufacturers in theconsumer goods space often work with thousands of suppliers tosource their materials and reporting this type of supplierinformation can be challenging. However, using conflict minerals orfailing to report can have a severe impact on a brand’sreputation.
The Conflict MineralsDeclaration (CMD) Manager, an enhancement to HP CDX, offers asimple, reduced-error method to create CMDs. CMD Manager providesan operational managed system of record with critical CMDinformation and facilitates the validation, importation andexportation of supplier information. A cloud-based solutionglobally accessible via the internet, the secure, real-time CMDmanager enables manufacturers to quickly review their reports andsubmit them to their customers within the supply chain. Inaddition, it assists manufacturers in becoming conflict-free byproviding an extensive list of verified conflict-free mines in theDRC.
“With increasing nationaland international requirements related to recycling and the use ofregulated substances, manufacturers must take an active role inknowing where their materials are being sourced from or risk putting their brand’s reputation on the line,” said Jay Celorie, conflict minerals global program manager, HP. “As a leader in theconflict minerals effort, HP supports its clients in themanufacturing space achieving compliance and enable them toconfidently report their declarations to the SEC.”
HP CDX supportsmanufacturers across diverse industries including transportation, aerospace and electronics to meet compliance requirements relatingto recycling and the use of regulated substances. In addition toeasing reporting for the Conflict Minerals Rule, it alsofacilitates and accelerates compliance with other legislation suchas the Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction ofChemicals (REACH), Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) andHong Kong Convention (HKC). It also supports efforts to enable thesustainability of product life cycles and design.
The basic capabilities ofCMD Manager are available free of charge to any company registeredon the HP CDX website. Thecapabilities included are importing and creating reports, validating supplier information and sending declarations. Extendedfunctions, such as accepting and exporting declarations, requirethe purchase of a license.
