HP Canada supports Calgary flood relief efforts
From funding to volunteer support, helping the Calgary community recover from the devastating effects of the recent flood was a top priority for HP Canada. Pulling together, HP Canada was proud to help our Calgary community on their road to recovery.
HP Canada Volunteer Challenge
HP Canada employees touched the lives of people from coast to coast during the 2012 HP Canada Volunteer Challenge. More than 55,000 volunteer hours were logged during the challenge – far surpassing the 20,000 hour goal.
- Winnipeg employees helped build a house through Habitat for Humanity.
- Saskatchewan employees volunteered at the Harbour Rescue Mission.
- Sydney, employees helped at Loaves and Fishes, a local soup kitchen.
- Calgary employees cooked meals for families at Ronald McDonald House.
- Montreal employees cleaned-up a summer camp for low income families
- Mississauga employees participated in the Orbis Plane Pull – raising funds for medical treatment for blind children
- WWF Shoreline clean-up events in Ottawa, Sydney, Oshawa and Mississauga.
HP Catalyst Initiative
The HP Catalyst Initiative brings together organizations from around the world that are passionate about transforming education. The HP Catalyst Initiative taps into the power of collaboration through a global network of educators whose goal is to transform STEMx teaching and learning—from secondary education through the university level—and inspire students to use their technical ingenuity and creativity to address urgent social challenges.
Consortium members focus on a wide range of issues, from teacher preparation and student-driven learning models to student assessment. Each is charged with investigating how emerging technologies can enhance STEMx learning experiences and promote critical skills such as creative thinking, open-ended problem-solving, and cross-cultural collaboration. Participating universities in Canada include:
- Multi-Versity Consortium : Thompson Rivers University, Kamloops, British Columbia
- Social STEM-preneur Consortium: Conestoga College Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning, Kitchener Waterloo
Adopt a School Program
HP Canada’s Adopt a School program helps to inspire and motivate students by providing a range of volunteer support that will help them to explore the many life choices they have.
HP Canada employees kicked off the partnership with TL Kennedy Secondary School with "Experience the Workplace Day" at HP Canada’s Mississauga head office. Thirty grade 10, 11 and 12 students visited the Spectrum Way office.
During the day the students met with Employees from Finance, Operations, Marketing and Sales who discussed their roles at HP and their career paths. They also received a tour of HP’s technology demonstration rooms and one-on-one job shadowing with HP employees.
A highlight of the day was the tour of HP’s HALO room, where they had a live video-conference with the HP Puerto Rico site, which also brought in high school students to visit that day. In addition to lots of introductions and smiles, the kids also got the opportunity to get to know each other and find out about life in another country.

HP LIFE (Learning Initiative for Entrepreneurs)
HP LIFE is a global program for training students, aspiring entrepreneurs and small business owners to harness the power of IT to establish and grow their business, helping them build successful companies and create jobs.
In 2012, HP LIFE e-Learning was launched – an innovative, online training program that helps entrepreneurs and small business owners learn IT and business skills in their own time, at their own pace. Together with our partner Education Development Center inc (EDC) an innovative, interactive online learning curriculum was designed that covers key elements and can be followed in a self-paced fashion - independently or as part of a classroom setting.
