Q: How do applications fit into the evolving “new style of IT”?
A: The world that we’re moving into is defined by the application. … If you’re a bank doing risk analytics on every single transaction, you need infrastructure that can deal with that volume and the computing realities of that sort of application. You can’t take a one-size-fits-all infrastructure for every application across the continuum—but you can’t put the complexity of multiple ideally suited architectures in the hands of the end customer. You have to shelter them from that. When you turn your faucet on, and get a huge amount of water, and turn it off, you don’t worry about all the pipes that brought it there.
