Packaging requirements

We recommend the following guidelines for packaging and shipping your returned assets to minimize damage and maximize your resources. Typically, there are two classifications of product return: large bulk and small individual returns.


Large bulk returns

  • Large quantities from the same location
  • Consolidated on skids for loading on trucks
  • Each pallet must be properly labelled
  • Boxes are not required

Item Instruction
Monitors
  • Stacked up to 3 layers, only
  • Each monitor individually wrapped in a plastic bag
  • Place monitors face down on two layers of bubble wrap to minimize risk of scratching
  • Layers are separated by a piece of corrugated material
  • Video Cables and Swivel Bases must be returned with monitors
  • Video cable wrapped around base
  • Pallet load to be plastic shrink-wrapped and strapped
  • Each pallet labelled with HP Return PO# & Lease Schedule #
Monitors
  • Follow instructions listed above for the 14” or 15” monitors, except:
  • 17” or 21” monitors can only be stacked up to 2 layers
Desktops PC's
  • Stacked up to 5 layers, only
  • Cables, keyboards, mouse, etc. packed in separate boxes
  • Layers are separated by cardboard and bubble-wrap
  • PC units and NW equipment must not overhang the pallet
  • Pallet load to be plastic shrink-wrapped
  • Each pallet labelled with HP Return PO# & Lease Schedule #
Notebook PC's
  • Each notebook will be individually packed in a box reasonably fitted to the unit
  • Packed boxes stacked up to 5 layers only
  • If sent back on a skid, no more then 5 layers high. Layers are separated by cardboard and large bubble-wrap
  • If sent back in bags, no more then 6 layers high. Layers are separated by cardboard and large bubble-wrap.
  • Pallet load to be shrink-wrapped
  • Each pallet labelled with HP Return PO# and Lease Schedule #
Laser printers
  • Pallet load to be shrink-wrapped
  • Each pallet labelled with HP Return PO# & Lease Schedule #
  • Remove toner from printer
  • Each printer individually bubble-wrapped
  • Stacked up to 2 layers for smaller printer and 1 high for larger printers
  • Units must not overhang the pallet
  • Layers are separated by cardboard or bubble-wrap
  • Paper trays, etc. should be packed in separate boxes
Servers
  • If not on wheels, then should be palleted
  • Pallet load to be shrink-wrapped
  • Each pallet labelled with HP Return PO# and Lease Schedule #
  • Do not stack
  • Protect each server with bubble-wrap and cardboard
  • Cables, etc. packed in separate boxes
  • Units must not overhang the pallet
  • Rack mounted servers may be removed from the rack, individually bubble-wrapped and then shrink-wrapped together. Or, you may keep the servers in the rack and bind in with shrink-wrap. The entire rack should also be shrink-wrapped.

Small Individual Returns

  • Small quantities from one or many locations
  • Packed in individual/single boxes will protective fill material
  • Proper label must be on each individual box
  • Capable of being transported via courier shipment (e.g.: UPS)
  • Styrofoam peanuts are not adequate to provide required fill protection – please use foam inserts

Desktop PC’s NW Equipment (Routers, Hubs)
  • 3” of foam required on all sides of monitor packed in a box
  • Label box with HP Return PO# & Lease Schedule #
Notebook PC’s
  • Each piece wrapped in large bubble bubble-wrap
  • Each notebook will be individually packed in a box reasonably fit to the unit
  • Label box with HP Return PO# & Lease Schedule #
Laser printers
  • Each printer individually bubble-wrapped in a separate box; do not ship printers with toner installed
  • Paper trays, etc. should be packed in separate boxes
  • Sufficient fill to prevent movement in box
  • Label box with HP Return PO# & Lease Schedule #
