HP Hardware Recycling Process
Consumer / Small & Medium Business
HP is the pioneer for recycling IT products since 1987. In 2003, HP established it's Planet Partners Program to manage hardware take-back recycling from our enterprise customers for the Asia Pacific and Japan region.
On 12 Jan 2008, HP expanded the Planet Partners Program and created an avenue for small & medium business and consumer customers to return their HP equipment for recycling. As one of the founding members of the Hong Kong Computer Recycling Programme partnering with the Hong Kong Government, a scheme was setup to take back unwanted IT equipment for recycling in an environmental sound manner.
Products within the scope of this programme include: desktop and notebook computer, LCD and CRT monitor, printer and scanner, and associated accessories. Collection will be done in various housing estates in Hong Kong periodically.
After the collection, equipment is transported to an approved electronic recycler. Equipment is dismantled into different materials and component parts (plastic, precious metals, batteries, cathode ray tubes, printed circuit boards, insulated wiring) and sent off to further processing.
