HP Sponsors Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment's 3-D CG Feature, "Dr. Seuss' The Lorax"
PALO ALTO, Calif. --HPtoday announced its sponsorship of the release ofUniversalPictures and Illumination Entertainment’s 3-D CG(computergraphics) feature, “Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax,” openingnationwide onMarch 2.
In tandem withcollaboratingwith Universal Partnerships & Licensing(UP&L) in support ofthe film, HP is launching a series ofeducational programs toconnect its long-standing leadership inenvironmental sustainability with its commitment to education.
“The theme ofresponsibleconsumption is a priority throughout HP and spreadingthe messageof ‘Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax’ is something we are passionateabout,”said Jeff Walter, director, Environmental Sustainability andSocialInnovation, Imaging and Printing Group, HP. “’The Lorax’ isnotonly an inspired tale told by one of the world’s mostbelovedchildren’s authors, it is also an ecological challenge thatringstrue in today’s time.”
“Every InklingMakesa Difference”
HP is working withUniversalPictures and Scholastic to create supplementalscience-basededucational materials focused on sustainability. Theprogram, “EveryInkling Makes a Difference,” is designed to helpteachers discussenvironmental issues with their students and learnabout actionsthat families can take toward sustainability.

Additionally,beginningMarch 2, students can enter the “Every Inkling WritingContest.”Parents and teachers can help students submit a storydescribing acreative new idea for how they or their communitiescould live moresustainably and be entered to win prizes designed tofurther theireducational future, including a $10,000 collegescholarship fromHP.
HP empowers consumersto“Print Like The Lorax” – a reference to making moresustainablechoices when printing. The company is now offeringvideos andeducational content with practical tips on selectingprintingproducts designed with the environment in mind, choosingpaperscertified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) andrecyclingused cartridges through the HP Planet Partners program.
The companyencouragescustomers to print responsibly through its commitmenttoresponsible forestry programs, recycling innovations andcommitmentto energy efficiency. HP sets the precedent for people to“PrintLike The Lorax” in the following ways:
- Expanding the use of recycled plastics in itscartridgemanufacturing process, which has already produced morethan 2billion cartridges made from recycled plastic.
- Leading the market in the use of recycled content in imagingandprinting products, as evidenced by using more than 100millionpounds of recycled plastic in HP printing productssince2007.(1)
- Committing to offer at least 50 percent of HP-branded paperaseither FSC®-certifiedorcontaining more than 30 percent post-consumer content by the endof2015.
- Joining the FSC as a member to promote responsibleforestrypractices around the globe.
- Joining the World Wildlife Fund’s (WWF) Global Forest and Trade Networkin2009, making a commitment to protect forests and extendingthatcommitment in 2012 by supporting WWF’s efforts to conservemangroveforests in Indonesia and protect the proboscis monkey,anendangered species.
- Surpassing its goal to improve the overall energy efficiencyofprinting products. HP improved the overall energy efficiency ofitsink and laser printing products by 46 percent from 2005 to2011,exceeding its original goal of 40 percent.
