Configuring your HP Fax from a Windows-Based PC
Although most of the HP Fax settings can be configured from the All-in-One control panel menus, they also can be configured, in a more friendly and easy way, through the HP All-in-One software interface.
Learn how to configure the main fax settings and make full use of your HP All-in-One printer fax-related capabilities like sending a fax from your PC, checking fax history, managing speed dials or setting the fax answer mode.

HP Solution Center (
) is the software interface from which you can easily manage from your PC all settings and features of your HP All-in-One printer. The HP All-in-One software versions that include this interface are: v.12, v.13 and v.14.- Collapse AllGetting startedGetting started
First of all, you have to open HP Solution Center. To do so:
Windows XP
- Click the Start button at the left side of your desktop.
- Select All Programs.
- Select HP.
- Select HP Solution Center and wait until it opens.
Windows Vista & Windows 7
- Click the Windows icon on the Windows task bar.
- Select Programs.
- Select HP.
Select HP Solution Center and wait until it opens.
Depending on the HP All-in-One software version installed, HP Solution Center will look like as follows:

See below how easily you can send a fax from your PC:
Provided that HP Solution Center is already open, click the Send a Fax button; a window similar to the one below opens:

This window allows managing all data necessary for fax sending:
Fax to: From this section you can manage the information related to the fax recipient(s).
- Click the Address Book to select a contact stored in the address book and add it to the list of recipients.
- Click the Add to Address Book button to add a new contact to the address book out of the recipient information previously entered manually.
- Click the Recent Faxes button to access a log of the last faxes sent from the HP All-in-One printer.Output: From his section you can manage the graphic features of the fax to be sent (e.g. Fax Quality and Contrast) and decide whether the fax to be sent will be a Color or B/W fax.
Additionally, the Page(s) in unit option allows you to decide whether the original will be a document already stored in the hard disk or a document that needs to be scanned before being sent.
Once you have filled all the fields, make sure all the data is correct and click the Send Fax button.

You can manage the personal information (e.g. your fax number, your name or the name of your company) visible at the header of every fax sent from the HP All-in-One printer.

Click the Settings button in HP Solution Center and select Fax Settings.

Select the Personal Information tab in the window that opens, enter the data, and finally click the OK button.

You can forward inbound faxes to a different fax number. See below how to do it:
Click the Settings button in HP Solution Center and select Fax Settings.

Select the Fax Forwarding tab.
Check the Forward Incoming Faxes to Another Number box, enter the fax number to which incoming faxes will be forwarded, set the range of time during which fax forwarding will be active, and then click the OK button.

A Distinctive Ring service consists on assigning a different ring for fax calls so the HP fax can recognize them and activate to receive them while ignoring voice calls.
NOTE: This service needs to be enabled by your phone service provider prior to being configured on the HP fax device.See below how to configure it:
Click the Settings button in HP Solution Center and select Fax Settings.

Afterwards, select the Distinctive Ring tab, select the same type of ring provided by your local phone service provider (e.g. Double Ring, Triple Ring,...) and click the OK button.

- HP Digital Fax services allow storing an electronic copy of incoming black & white faxes in a given folder located in the hard disk (or a folder shared over the network) or forward them as e-mail attachments to a given e-mail address.
The setup wizard provides an easy way to configure this service.
NOTE: Digital Fax services are available for only certain HP All-in-One models. Check the documentation that came with your HP All-in-One printer to know if it incorporates this feature.See below how to configure those services:
Click the Settings button in HP Solution Center and select Fax Settings.

Select the Digital Fax Settings tab.
Enable the service, enter the information required and click the OK button.

Digital Fax services can also be configured through the Digital Fax Setup Wizard. See below how to run it:
Click the Settings button in HP Solution Center, place the cursor over More Fax Settings and select Digital Fax Setup Wizard from the drop-down list that opens.

Once the wizard starts, click the Next button and follow to onscreen instructions to the end.

Speed dials allow placing a fax call by pressing a reduced number of keys.
See below how to manage the list of speed dial entries on your HP All-in-One printer:
Click the Settings button in HP Solution Center, place the cursor over More Fax Settings and select Fax Speed Dial Settings from the drop-down list that opens.

From the window that opens you can enter and remove speed dial entries, create and manage groups, and import entries from the address book. Click the Save button when finished.

The Fax Setup Wizard runs automatically at the end of the HP All-in-One software installation but it can be ran again at a later stage to easily reconfigure the fax basic settings.
To do so:
Click the Settings button in HP Solution Center, place the cursor over More Fax Settings and select Fax Setup Wizard from the drop-down list that opens.

When the wizard starts, press the Next button and follow the onscreen instructions to the end.

You can easily access a registry of past fax interactions like faxes sent or faxes received.
See below how to access that registry of your HP All-in-One printer:
Click the Settings button in HP Solution Center, place the cursor over More Fax Settings and select Fax Log from the drop-down list that opens.

The Fax Log window that opens is divided into four different tabs:
- Sent log: Gives access to the list of sent faxes.
- Received log: Gives access to the list of received faxes.
- Caller ID History: Shows a registry of calls received and all relevant data associated to every call.
NOTE: The Caller ID service needs to be enabled by your phone service provider prior to configuring it on the HP Fax device.
- Junk Fax Blocker: Allows blocking reception of faxes sent from certain phone numbers.

A Fax Setup Test can help you to troubleshoot fax issues by testing the fax hardware setup and printing a diagnostics page.

HP Solution Center Lite is the software interface from which you can easily manage from your PC all settings and features of your HP All-in-One printer. The HP All-in-One software versions that include this interface are: v.22.5 and higher.

- Select All Programs.
- Select your HP All-in-One model name (e.g. HP Officejet Pro 8500A A910).
- Select your HP All-in-One model name again (e.g. HP Officejet Pro 8500A A910).
Windows Vista & Windows 7
- Click the Windows icon on the Windows task bar.
- Select Programs.
- Select your HP All-in-One model name (e.g. HP Officejet Pro 8500A A910).

You can make the HP All-in-One printer to forward automatically inbound faxes to a different fax number. See below how to do it:
Search and click Fax Actions on HP Solution Center Lite and select Manage Fax Settings.
Select Fax Forward on the left panel.

Enable the service and enter the numbers to which incoming faxes will be forwarded.
Select between Just forward the faxes or Print and forward them.
Set the range of time during which incoming faxes will be forwarded and click the OK button.

For HP All-in-One printers the Answer Mode can be set to Manual or Automatic. If set to Automatic, the fax will activate to answer all the incoming calls after a certain number of rings.

Search and click Fax Actions on HP Solution Center Lite and select Manage Fax Settings.
Select Basic Settings on the left panel and select the Auto Answer tab.

Set the appropriate values and click the OK button.

See below how to block reception of faxes sent from undesired fax numbers:
Search and click Fax Actions on HP Solution Center Lite and select Manage Fax Settings.
Select Junk Fax Blocker on the left panel and select the Junk Fax List tab.

Enable the service, add the fax numbers from which no faxes will be received and click the OK button.
Additionally, you can select the Caller ID List tab to access the registry of calls received and block faxes sent from any of the fax numbers contained in it.
NOTE: The Caller ID service needs to be enabled by your phone service provider prior to being configured on your HP All-in-one printer.
