May 2015: IDC released a quarterly update to their Worldwide Quarterly Server Tracker, citing market share figures for the 1st calendar quarter of 2015 (1Q15).

Consider these telling facts:

Fact 1: HP continues to lead in the worldwide server market by revenue. HP is the undisputed #1 in worldwide revenue for the 5th consecutive quarter.

From the #1 position HP grew total server revenue at a rate of 10.6% year-over-year. HP’s worldwide revenue share was 24.9% with a gap of 6.9 percentage points with #2, Dell.


Fact 2: For 13 consecutive years, 52 straight quarters, HP is the #1 vendor in worldwide server shipments.

HP shipped a server every 14.7 seconds on average in the 1st calendar quarter of 2015.


Fact 3: HP leads the total Blade server market with a #1 position in both revenue and units.

HP has led the Blade server market in revenue and units for 34 consecutive quarters, 8.5 years straight.


Fact 4: HP leads in combined Density Optimized and Blade servers.

HP is #1 in revenue market share and leads its closest competitor, Cisco, by 12.1 percentage points. This segment is identified by IDC as a significant and growing market driven by demand in public cloud hyperscale environments, as well as private cloud and integrated systems.1

HP grew density-optimized server revenue by more than 200% year-over-year in 1Q15.


Fact 5: HP ProLiant is the x86 server market share leader in both revenue and units for 76 consecutive quarters, 19 consecutive years. 2

Sustained market leadership is a hallmark HP ProLiant innovation. HP grew x86 server revenue 12.4% year-over-year. HP’s #1 position for revenue share, 28.9%, is 6.5 points higher than #2 Dell and 19.5 percentage points more than #3 Lenovo.


Fact 6: HP leads in EPIC+RISC Blade server revenue.

HP Integrity blades maintained the number one position in revenue for the RISC+EPIC blade segment with 64.1% worldwide share.


Fact 7: HP is #1 in Windows® revenue and units worldwide.

HP has a 34.2% revenue share of the Windows market and leads the nearest competitor, Dell, by 7.5 percentage points.


Fact 8: HP is #1 in Linux® revenue and units (tied) worldwide.

HP has a 21.1% revenue share of the Linux market and leads the nearest competitor, Dell, by 4.8 percentage points.


Fact 9: For the 3 major operating environments UNIX, Windows and Linux combined (representing 99.9% of all servers shipped worldwide), HP is number 1 worldwide in server revenue and unit shipments.
