August 2015: IDC released a quarterly update to their Worldwide Quarterly Server Tracker, citing market share figures for the 2nd calendar quarter of 2015 (2Q15).

Consider these telling facts:

Fact 1: HP continues to lead in the worldwide server market by revenue. HP is the undisputed #1 in worldwide revenue for the 6th consecutive quarter.

From the #1 position HP grew total server revenue at a rate of 7.7% year-over-year. HP’s worldwide revenue share was 25.4% with a gap of 7.9 percentage points with #2, Dell.
HP gained more server revenue, year over year, than Cisco, Dell, IBM, Oracle and the ODM direct category.


Fact 2: For more than 13 consecutive years, 53 straight quarters, HP is the #1 vendor in worldwide server shipments.

HP shipped more than 4 servers per minute on average in the 2nd calendar quarter of 2015.


Fact 3: HP leads the total Blade server market with a #1 position in both revenue and units.

HP has led the Blade server market in revenue and units for 35 consecutive quarters, nearly 9 years straight.


Fact 4: HP took the #1 position in Density optimized servers from Dell in 2Q15.

HP grew revenue in density-optimized servers by 118.7%, year over year, gaining 11.3 points of revenue share to a total of 29.7% worldwide.


Fact 5: HP leads in combined Density Optimized and Blade servers.

HP is #1 in revenue market share and leads its closest competitor, Cisco, by 17.1 percentage points. This segment is identified by IDC as a significant and growing market driven by demand in public cloud hyperscale environments, as well as private cloud and integrated systems.1


Fact 6: HP ProLiant is the x86 server market share leader in both revenue and units for 77 consecutive quarters, more than 19 consecutive years. [2]

Sustained market leadership is a hallmark HP ProLiant innovation. HP grew x86 server revenue 11.1% year-over-year. HP’s #1 position for revenue share, 29.9%, is 7.3 points higher than #2 Dell and 21.1 percentage points more than #3 Lenovo.


Fact 7: HP leads in EPIC+RISC Blade server revenue.

HP Integrity blades maintained the number one position in revenue for the RISC+EPIC blade segment with 86.1% worldwide share.


Fact 8: HP is #1 in Windows® revenue and units worldwide.

HP has a 35.3% revenue share of the Windows market and leads the nearest competitor, Dell, by 8.3 percentage points.


Fact 9: HP is #1 in Linux® revenue and units worldwide.

HP has a 21.2% revenue share of the Linux market and leads the nearest competitor, Dell, by 7.1 percentage points.


Fact 10: For the 3 major operating environments UNIX, Windows and Linux combined (representing 99.9% of all servers shipped worldwide), HP is number 1 worldwide in server revenue and unit shipments.
