Option one: Use the HP Printer Install Wizard
If you bought your printer prior to the release of Windows 8, the latest printer driver might not be on the CD that shipped with your product; however, you can easily find and download the latest printer driver using the HP Printer Install Wizard. The Printer Install Wizard is a tool that automatically finds the best Windows 8 driver for your HP printer.
NOTE: The Printer Install Wizard is not available for all HP printers, and is available only for the Windows 7 or Windows 8 operating systems.
The Printer Install Wizard works with printers connected with a USB cable or with a wired (Ethernet) or wireless network connection. If you would like to connect your printer wirelessly, but it is not yet on a wireless network, you need to temporarily connect the printer with a USB cable to run the wizard.
Follow these steps to download and install the HP Printer Install Wizard.
Step one: Download the HP Printer Install Wizard
Click or tap the following link; HP Printer Install Wizard.
Make sure that your computer meets the system requirements, and then click or tap Download.
When the Security Warning dialog box opens, choose one of the following methods to download the wizard.
Method one: Run the utility
In the Security Warning dialog box, click or tap Run.
When the Download Complete dialog box opens, click or tap Run, and then click or tap Run again on the Security Warning dialog box.
Method two: Save the utility
In the Security Warning dialog box, click or tap Save.
When the Save As window opens, browse to your Desktop, and then click or tap Save.
When the download is complete, browse to where you saved the file, and then double-click or double-tap the file to install the utility.
When the wizard finishes installing, click or tap Finish. The wizard opens automatically.

Step two: Run the HP Printer Install Wizard
Press the Power button to turn on the printer, if it is not already on.
Connect the USB cable to the HP printer and to the computer, if it is not already connected.
Make sure that your computer has an Internet connection. The wizard must access the Internet to work correctly.
Click or tap Next to begin the utility. The wizard displays a list of detected printers.
If the wizard detects more than one printer, select your HP printer from the list.
If your printer is not in the list, click or tap My Printer is not listed, and then follow the on-screen instructions.
The wizard automatically displays the best available driver for your HP printer.
If a full feature driver is available, the wizard detects it. Click or tap Next to download and install the software. For full functionality, HP recommends installing the full feature driver if it is available.
If an in-Operating System (inOS) driver is available, the wizard explains that the driver is already installed. It also supplies a link to more information about using the inOS driver with your printer.
If a Windows Update driver is available, the wizard explains that the driver is already installed. It will also supply a link to more information about using a Windows Update driver.
Option two: Download and install the software from the HP website
Follow these steps to download and install drivers from the HP website.
Disconnect the USB cable from both the product and the computer (if you already connected it).
Turn the product on.
Right-click or touch and hold this link: HP Customer Care, and then click or tap Open in new window.
Type your product number, and then click or tap Next. You might also need to click or tap your model in a list of similar products.
Click or tap Software & Driver Downloads.
Select your operating system, and then click or tap Next.
Click or tap the Plus sign () next to Driver, and then click or tap the driver that you want to download.
Read through the minimum system requirements and additional instructions. You can also click or tap View directions for complete download instructions. This option allows you to install the software at any time after the download completes.
Click or tap Save, and then browse to the location on your computer where you want to save the file.
Click or tap Save. The software downloads to your computer.
Hint: Make a note of the place that you saved the file, in case you want to install it at a later time.

The Windows 8 in-OS software is a driver that is already on your computer and allows basic printer functionality; most of the printer control panel buttons do not function, you cannot use eFax functions (if your printer is so equipped), and scanning output functions such as scan-to-email are unavailable.
You do not need to download and install any additional software from HP to use your printer. You can still use the software to perform basic print, scan, and fax tasks, and import images from memory cards if your printer has these features.
