I think the fact that the HP Envy prints don’t smudge and the colour is so much clearer I would sat over all impressions are this is a better printer for me. I like saving money too. It is very convenient knowing what my ongoing costs are and having my ink sent before I run out

I really feel the HP outshone the Epson at every stage; I set out to give them an absolutely fair and unbiased trial, even though I already loved my Instant Ink service.

HP Instant Ink customer testimonials

  • My wife runs a Brownie Pack and is delighted with this scheme. It has meant she can print out documents for the Brownies without fear of unknown ink costs. We have benefitted, the Brownies have benefitted. So pleased this scheme was advised when we were looking for a new printer.

  • I print off documents for two organizations and this is great because I never run out of ink. The coloured ink produces excellent photo prints. Because HP knows when I am running out of ink I don't have to do anything - it simply arrives in the post on time. I cant think why I didn't join this scheme before. A very satisfied customer.

    Avril Bairstow

  • Takes all the stress and unnecessary cost out of ink replenishment. First class service and highly recommended.

    Malcolm Ford
    Cleveland - Saltburn-by-the-Sea

  • It is an excellent service, easy to use, and flexible if you find you need to print more copies than expected. It is easy to track your progress through a month and reassuring to know that you will not run out of ink, particularly if, like me, you live nearly 20 miles from the nearest retail outlet.

    Anna Holmes
    Halesworth, Suffolk

  • Great value and wonderful service. I'll never have to worry about ink (or recycling my old cartridges) ever again! Very happy customer.

    Tommie Travers

  • Such a clever concept. I print what I want and let HP worry about everything else. I don't do much printing but probably print more now than I have in the past and it is totally worry free. HP checks my ink, they ensure I never run out and they deliver to my door. A service like this usually comes at a premium price, but with HP instant Ink you get the premium service whilst enjoying a discount price.

How does HP Instant Ink work?

When you enrol in an HP Instant Ink plan, you pay a monthly fee to print a defined number of pages per month. Ink, delivery and recycling is included. The plans are based on the number of pages you use so you pay for the pages you print, not the ink cartridges we send you. If you do not print all of your plan pages in a month, you can roll over up to the number of pages per month in your plan. If you need additional pages, you can upgrade immediately to the next plan (applies to the 50 and 100 pages plan) or automatically purchase an additional set of pages for £1. A printed page counts the same whether it’s black and white, a colour document or a photo.

There are three plans:

Monthly fee Pages per month Rollover pages per month Additional pages per month
£1.99 50 For 50 Each additional set of 15 pages for just £1
£3.49 100 For 100 Each additional set of 20 pages for just £1
£7.99 300 For 300 Each additional set of 25 pages for just £1

There is no annual fee or penalty fees and you can cancel or change plans online anytime.5 As part of the service, HP will send you HP Instant Ink replacement cartridges and pre-paid recycling envelopes, at no additional cost. Your billing month starts when you insert an HP Instant Ink cartridge in your enroled printer.

HP checks the ink usage of your enroled printer, so we will know when to send you more ink. You will always have ink when you need it.2 HP Instant Ink cartridges can only be used in the printer that you have enroled. Used HP Instant Ink cartridges must be returned in the pre-paid recycling envelopes provided by HP. Returned cartridges will be recycled by HP Planet Partners.

Why should I enrol now when I still have ink?

We’ll send your HP Instant Ink cartridges now, so you will have them when you need replacement cartridges. Your billing won’t start until 30 days after you insert one of your HP Instant Ink cartridges into your enroled printer.

What if I don’t know how much I print?

You can start with any plan and change your plan at any time at HP Connected. Sign in at to see how many pages you have printed, how many rollover pages are available, and/or how many additional pages you have purchased. On this page, you can also change your plan or update your account information. You can choose to make a plan upgrade effective immediately and retrospectively apply to the current billing cycle, or have the upgrade to take effect the first day of the next billing cycle. Plan downgrade changes and cancellation are effective the first day of the next billing cycle. For more details, see the HP Instant Ink Terms of Service.

What if my printing needs change from month to month?

Your unused pages are rolled over for you, up to your monthly plan amount. You can print more than your monthly page amount and still save. Additional sets of pages are automatically available and let you print beyond your monthly limit for pennies per page. Unused additional pages do not roll over so you may want to consider a plan upgrade if you exceed your monthly limit. You can easily change your monthly plan whenever you want.

Will I get cartridges every month?

No, you will only get cartridges when your printer tells us you need them. HP Instant Ink cartridges are extra high capacity, and they contain months’ worth of ink depending on your usage. You can print as much as you want as long as you are in the program.

When will HP send replacement cartridges?

HP will send you replacement cartridges before you run out of ink. When your enroled printer is connected to the Internet, your printer automatically orders ink for you because it knows when you are low on ink. 6 Cartridges are sent using standard delivery, so they might take up to 10 days to arrive, however, your printer will take delivery time and regular ink usage into account when it orders your ink. Customer with high volume print needs may call Support to request expedited delivery, if they feel their cartridges will not arrive before running out of ink. (Additional delivery charges may apply.)

Your printer orders ink when your cartridges have enough ink to print twice the number of average pages included in your monthly plan. Learn more about how HP measures page yields.

Is the cost the same for colour and black and white pages?

Yes, you can print full colour photos, colour documents, or high quality black and white pages. It’s all the same cost per page. You never have to worry again about printing in black and white to avoid using your colour ink cartridges.

When does the billing cycle start?

Your billing cycle starts when you insert your first Instant Ink cartridge in your enroled printer. You will be billed at the end of your billing cycle for your monthly fee and any additional pages printed. If you purchased an enrolment card, your credit card will not be charged for your first monthly fee, since you already paid for your first month by purchasing an enrolment card. Your enrolment card fee does not include any additional pages that you print beyond the page amount in your plan.

If you enrol now, we will send you a welcome kit with your HP Instant Ink cartridges in about 10 days, so you’ll have HP Instant Ink cartridges on hand when you need them. Your billing cycle does not start when you enrol, it starts when you insert your first HP Instant Ink cartridge.

When should I insert the Instant Ink cartridges?

Insert the Instant Ink cartridges when the cartridges that came with the printer run out of ink.

Can I cancel or change my plan anytime?

Yes. There is no obligation or commitment beyond your first month. You may cancel your service or change plans at any time without penalty. To change your plan or cancel your service, sign in at Expand the Setting section and click Edit, next to HP Instant Ink Plan. You can choose to make a plan upgrade effective immediately and retrospectively apply to the current billing cycle, or have the upgrade to take effect the first day of the next billing cycle. Plan downgrade changes and cancellation are effective the first day of the next billing cycle. For more details, see the HP Instant Ink Terms of Service .

How do rollover pages and additional pages work?

If you do not use all your plan pages in a month, the unused pages will be kept in your account as rollover pages. Your rollover pages are available as long as you are enroled in HP Instant Ink. You can continue to roll over up to the number of pages in your monthly plan (for example, you can roll over up to 50 pages if you are enroled in a 50 page plan). If you have printed all of the pages in your plan, and you have used all of your rollover pages, you can still print additional pages and save.

Additional pages are available in sets of 15, 20 and 25 pages, depending on your plan, for only a £1, so you are still saving. As long as your printer is connected to the Internet, we will send you an email to remind you when you are near printing all of the pages in your plan. Unused additional pages do not roll over so if you are regularly printing additional pages, you may want to change you plan. You can easily change your monthly plan whenever you want by signing in at Expand the Setting section and click Edit, next to HP Instant Ink Plan. Since you can choose to make a plan upgrade effective immediately and retrospectively apply to the current billing cycle, you may be able to avoid charges for additional pages.
