Meet the executive team
Vice President, Strategic Marketing, HP Software
Paul Muller serves as vice president of strategic marketing for software products within the Software business at HP. He has responsibility for aligning marketing activities with those of the sales channel so customers receive focused, consistent and coherent messages.
Prior to this appointment, Muller was sales director for HP Business Technology Optimization (BTO) Software in Asia Pacific, leading the sales team across the region. He worked closely with the Enterprise Business Group to develop integrated strategies for the HP’s Enterprise segment.
Prior to this role, Muller was marketing director for HP Software – Asia Pacific, and also held the South Pacific role for HP Software. In this position he achieved top market share position in distributed management. He also played an instrumental role in the development of some of HP’s most significant software customer relationships.
An industry veteran with more than 15 years of experience in IT, Muller joined HP in 1998 and has held positions with sales and market development teams. Prior to joining HP, Muller held several consulting positions including as a freelance IT consultant and a technical consultant with Unisys Australia.
Director of HP Innovation Centers
Paul is the Director of the HP Innovation Centers. He has been with HP since 1987 and has many years of industrial experience in both the Computing and Communications Industries. His current focus is on managing and developing the HP Innovation Centers and other innovation hubs worldwide. These facilities along with their business innovation teams deliver services to client organizations, specialising in the Manufacturing and Distribution Industries, Communications, Media & Entertainment, Public Sector, and Financial Services.

Before pioneering the creation of the HP Innovation Centers, Paul was a research manager in the HP Research Laboratories. Prior to joining HP, Paul worked in the communications industry for British Telecom.
VP & GM UK&I, HP Software
Alastair leads HP’s UK&I Software Business Unit and has responsibility for its strategy, the promotion and selling of the IT Performance Suite and related services.
Prior to this role, Alastair led the EMEA Software Business Development team, responsible for setting the sales strategy for the EMEA business and enhancing the capability of the EMEA sales team to sell across the software portfolio. Previously, Alastair was responsible for defining the new sales strategy and go-to Market models for Worldwide Software Sales, and before that, he successfully led the Worldwide Services Operations team for HP Software.
Alastair joined HP from Peregrine as a result of the acquisition in 2005, where he held the role of VP International Operations and was responsible for all Finance and Operations activities in EMEA and APJ. He also led the integration activity for EMEA, as well as leading the Sales Operations function.
Before moving into the Software industry in 1992, Alastair gained broad-industry experience. He has held senior roles in companies such as Sterling Software, ACI, AvantGO and Hypercom and has led functions across a number of disciplines ranging from Sales, Finance, Planning, Alliances and Operations.
VP & GM EMEA, HP Software
As Vice President and General Manager of HP Software, EMEA, Rafael Brugnini has responsibility for HP Software to deliver an innovative software solution known as IT Performance Suite. Brugnini has overall leadership for sales, marketing, business development, professional services and pre-sales and is also responsible for HP’s investment in strategic alliances and partner/mid-size EB’s throughout EMEA.
Brugnini joined HP in 1996 and has held a number of senior management positions the last being worldwide vice president for HP Software Services Sales. In this role he led a highly successful team of 500 who over achieved on every single KPI of the $1.5B business and was recognised in 2010 as HP’s Worldwide Software Leader, being instrumental in starting and transforming the organisation. He built an industry-first team of Software Services account managers employed with the exclusive aim of supporting customers to maximise their software deployment and so reap the best return on their investment.
With an extensive background in management, sales and consultancy within the software industry Brugnini is one of the founding members of the Service Executive Industry Board (SEIB). Prior to joining HP, he was founder and director of Hipercubo Ltd, a software developer and distributor in Uruguay.
Brugnini holds a degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the Catholic University in Uruguay and attended the London Business School Senior Executive Program. A native Uruguayan, he has lived and worked in several countries in Latin America and the USA. He now resides in Madrid with his wife and family, and in his spare time enjoys playing tennis and windsurfing.
VP & GM, SPM & SaaS, HP Software
Tony Sumpster, Vice President & General Manager, SaaS and Partner Strategy for HP Software, is responsible for the strategy and delivery of HP Software SaaS offerings. Additionally, Tony is responsible for HP Software’s partner strategy worldwide across all partner routes to market.
Previously, Tony led WW Field Operations for the Information Management business after joining HP in 2008 via the acquisition of TOWER Software, where he was EVP of EMEA and North American businesses. Prior to TOWER, Tony held various management roles at Datawatch International Limited, Perot Systems, Moai Technologies Limited, and StorageTek.
