HP Helps European Healthcare Providers Get Fast, Secure Access to Patient Data
BARCELONA, Oct. 17, 2012 — HP today announced that doctors and clinicians are benefiting from the combination of HP thin and zero clients and technology from authentication management provider Imprivata, allowing them to access medical records with just the tap of a badge, enabling them to spend more time with patients.
HP t510 and t610 Flexible Series thin clients, and now, the HP t410 All-in-One Smart Zero Client—have been integrated to operate with the Imprivata OneSign single-sign-on solution, which is already widely deployed in more than 200 healthcare facilities in Europe.
The combined solution also helps hospitals meet data privacy requirements, such as NEN 7510 in the Netherlands and Directive Hospital 2012 in France. The joint solution supports multiple virtualisation environments, including Citrix XenDesktop® and Citrix XenApp® and will be demonstrated in HP booth No. 207 at Citrix Synergy™ in Barcelona.
“Imprivata OneSign paired with HP’s thin and zero clients enables healthcare providers to balance the need to secure data with the need to provide quality patient care, which often requires sudden action that can be delayed by time-consuming logins,” said Lance Stevens, alliance marketing manager, Thin Clients, HP.
The combined solution addresses the challenges of highly mobile clinical workers who have to log in frequently from many sites around the hospital by allowing them to reopen a session quickly with the tap of a badge from any HP thin client endpoint.
The HP t410 runs the Citrix XenDesktop with Citrix HDX, as well as other leading protocols, on one device. It features an ARM processor and has a Texas Instruments (T-I) System on Chip (SoC) design, which adds a digital signal processor (DSP) onto the chip. The imaging decode utilizes both the ARM and DSP cores of the SoC, which allows the HP t410 to provide increased performance at low power consumption.
Hospitals can operate the HP t410 even more efficiently than desktop clients. This is because it is designed to run on less than 13 watts of power envelope, using Power over Ethernet (PoE) technology, and can run on AC power.
“HP thin clients and Imprivata’s solution improves our overall efficiency and helps to enhance the quality of patient care, which is our No. 1 priority, while IT benefits from the decreased maintenance and increased security that results from storing our data centrally,” said Meir Drong, project manager, Universitair Medisch Centrum Groningen (UMCG) Hospital.
The HP and Imprivata solution provides medical centres with support for a broad range of authentication devices including proximity badges. Imprivata offers out-of-the-box integration with electronic medical records (EMR) applications from leading vendors such as Cerner, EPIC, GE, Healthland, McKesson MEDITECH, and Siemens.
“We have seen fast, secure access to medical and patient data become ‘must have’ for care providers, and HP thin and zero clients paired with our authentication management solution offers them a way to address this need more easily and efficiently,” said Meinhard Ullrich, director, Business Development, Imprivata.
