HP Helps Softcat Manage Business Expansion
MANCHESTER, UK, Dec 14, 2012 — HP announced today that IT services provider Softcat has eliminated IT downtime with HP Converged Infrastructure. With five years business-critical service support and extended data storage capacity, HP enables Softcat to offer innovative cloud solutions that meet its customers’ changing IT demands.
Softcat is one of the UK’s fastest growing providers of software licensing, hardware, security and related IT services, with more than 500 employees. Rapid business growth has resulted in a 30 percent increase in staff over the last 18 months, and Softcat needed a new storage system to cope with added demand.
“We wanted to create a cloud platform to host key service offerings for our installed base and attract new customers,” says Simon Walker, Managed Services Director, Softcat. “Together, HP 3PAR StoreServ Storage and HP Critical Services give us new ways to provide reliable cloud services to our customers. Monitoring for failures has reduced downtime to the equivalent of approximately eight minutes per year.”
HP 3PAR StoreServ T400 and F400 Storage systems give Softcat a flexible solution for storage on demand, with scalable capacity and performance to support planned future expansion. Tiered storage ensures that the most active data is always rapidly accessible, and eliminates bottlenecks which might slow applications. HP 3PAR StoreServ Thin Provisioning software allows Softcat to purchase only the disk capacity they actually need, as they need it. Autonomic provisioning and management reduce tedious manual administration, minimising future disruption and saving the operating costs of unused disk capacity. The whole centrally managed storage environment is flexible and scalable, giving Softcat’s IT team the ability to change and expand its data storage provisioning without pre-planning or interruption to services.
To prevent downtime from causing serious business consequences for Softcat and its customers, HP Critical Services will provide the highest level of 24/7 support for the next five years.
“HP helps Softcat deliver reliable, value-added solutions to clients who are looking to innovate or migrate to industry-leading IT platforms,” says Warren Duke, storage director, HP UK and Ireland. “Rapid response and priority access to skilled HP resources boost service levels and reduce business risk.”
