Luton and Dunstable University Hospital Improves Patient Care with HP and OCSL

OCSL acceSSOnce Clinical Desktop Transformation Solution running on HP ElitePads boosts productivity, increases mobility, saves costs.

LUTON, UK, 07 August 2013 — HP today announced that the Luton and Dunstable University Hospital has improved patient care while driving down costs with HP Converged Infrastructure running on OCSL’sacceSSOnce Clinical Desktop Transformation Solution software.

In addition, the L&D has selected robust, resilient HP ElitePad Tablets as the device of choice to supplement its existing iPads. 65 community midwives are now equipped with HP ElitePad tablets, allowing them to stay connected during home visits.

The Luton and Dunstable University Hospital (L&D) is a 700-bed general hospital run by the National Health Service in Luton, Bedfordshire. Employing around 4,000 staff, the hospital provides general medical and surgical services for more than 315,000 people in Luton and Dunstable, the south of Bedfordshire, the north of Hertfordshire and parts of Buckinghamshire.

HP Gold Preferred Partner OCSL’s acceSSOnce solution provides a robust “follow me” virtual clinical desktop with single sign-on and session persistence. As a result, the L&D’s clinicians to roam between a PC in a consulting room and a shared machine on a ward, or even a mobile device from home, knowing that their applications will remain open so that they can continue working wherever they are.

The new IT platform has improved productivity by enabling the L&D’s clinicians and business users to seamlessly log in to any application on any device in any location, without the need for multiple passwords. Uninterrupted access to patient records from the office to the bedside to the outpatient clinic now helps to ensure patient safety. Based on open standards, the device-agnostic HP infrastructure supports BYOD (bring your own device) for enhanced mobility.

65 of the L&D’s community midwives are currently using HP Elite Pads in a pilot project in accordance with PbR (payment by results) which requires a mandatory data set to be collected by 1st April. The solution will demonstrate to other NHS Trusts how well it runs on HP ElitePads.
