Østfold Hospital Selects HP to Help Deliver High Quality, Cost-effective Communications

OSLO, Norway, August 20, 2013 — HP today announced that Project New Østfold Hospital (PNO) has selected a unified wired and wireless HP Networking solution to help ensure the highest levels of patient care at its new hospital in Kalnes.

Østfold Hospital currently has 671 beds at sites in Fredrikstad, Moss, Sarpsborg and Halden, serving a population of 282,000. Owned by Helse Sør-Øst, the hospital is the county's largest employer, with 4,880 staff. The new site at Kalnes is due to open in 2015.

As part of our new IT infrastructure, we need a highly reliable, resilient and easily maintained next-generation network that we can be sure will work with other equipment and contracts,” says Day Bohler, project director, PNO. “For us it was important to choose the most economically advantageous tender, as well as a strong supplier with experience of similar projects and reliable partners. As a result, HP will design and implement the ICT infrastructure at our new hospital in Kalnes.

Working closely with partners including Ascom, Viju, Atea, Simplex Finckelsen, Trådløse Trondheim and Diplex, HP will design, build, deploy and test ICT infrastructures for the new hospital. The open standards-based HP network edge infrastructure will integrate smoothly with the existing Cisco environment to support PNO’s wireless telephony, alarm system and intercom, surveillance, television program distribution, emergency alert system, audio-visual equipment and nurse call system.

HP 7500 Series Switches will provide the performance and low latency necessary for secure, high-speed transmission of mission-critical data throughout the new hospital buildings, while an HP wireless network will deliver seamless access for all mobile devices. For maximum efficiency, the network will be centrally managed with HP Intelligent Management Centre software, easing the workload on PNO’s IT team and lowering operating expenses.

HP has extensive experience of providing robust, innovative healthcare solutions across the region,” says Anita Krohn Traaseth, CEO, HP Norway. “Clients from around the world come to learn from the HP Healthcare Centers of Excellence in Oslo and Ahus, which showcase HP's expertise in the healthcare sector.

HP’s premier EMEA client event, HP Discover, takes place Dec. 10-12 in Barcelona, Spain.
