HP Announces SFR as France’s First Certified HP CloudSystem Bursting Destination

LES ULIS, France, Jan 16, 2014 — HP today announced that global telecommunications operator SFR has been certified as the first HP CloudSystem bursting destination in France.

By safely bursting workloads to SFR’s public cloud, organisations running private cloud environments on HP CloudSystem can now leverage hybrid cloud capabilities to provide additional computing resources on-demand, enhance IT agility and save costs.

France’s second biggest telecomms operator, SFR meets the needs of the public sector, professionnals, enterprises and operators for mobile and fixed telecommunications, internet and television. SFR Business Team, which has more than165,000 enterprise clients, offers cloud computing services including cloud bursting to enterprises of all sizes from data centers located in France.

"Cloud computing lays the foundation for an ecosystem where IT vendors and service providers can offer more efficient solutions to increase companies’ competitiveness,” says Arnaud Bertrand, Vice President Cloud Computing and Security, SFR Business Team. “HP CloudSystem users across France can now deploy an application locally and either burst to SFR to meet peak demand or move the application completely, freeing up local resources for business-critical applications.”

Bursting to SFR gives HP CloudSystem users unlimited capacity which can be administered from a single management environment, eliminating the need to purchase incremental infrastructure which would be underutilised during the rest of year. As a result, customers have access to specialised resources such as a cloud that meets specific compliance criteria, or one that supports load testing and simulations. Retailers, for example, can expand operations to support increased sales during busy holiday seasons while containing costs. Businesses can also extend geographic reach to locations where they do not own a data center. SFR certifies that all customer data is stored in its own secured data centers located in France, with no exposure to the U.S. Patriot Act.

As part of SFR’s existing HP Converged Cloud solution, HP Cloud Service Automation and HP Business Service Automation software enable SFR Business Team to offer IT services through a utility-based charging model. Powered by HP CloudSystem, the secure, partitioned, virtualised environment enables the rapid provision of new value-added services for the corporate business segment.

“To increase agility, enterprises are increasingly using hybrid environments combining public and private clouds,” says Jerome Labat, vice president, R&D cloud automation, HP. “By providing technology, services and programs, HP enables members of the HP CloudAgile Service Provider Program like SFR to provide the vital connection between private clouds based on HP CloudSystem and public clouds.”
