Setting up your HP Fax on an ADSL line
ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line) is a data communications technology that enables fast data transmission over standard copper telephone lines. ADSL is an "Always on" service, meaning that you do not need to dial a connection to gain access to Internet.
Learn how to set up your HP fax device on an ADSL telephone line.

NOTE: Before you start please make sure that your telecom devices are approved for connection to your telephone line; if you are unsure, check with your local telecom company.
Please follow the steps below to connect your HP product and device(s):
Connect your ADSL microfilter to the telephone wall socket.
NOTE: Some ADSL filters have a cable that should be attached to connect them to the telephone wall socket while others can be inserted into the telephone wall socket directly.Connect the HP fax cable supplied with your HP All-in-One or Fax product to the outlet labeled 1-LINE (or LINE) at the back (or on one side) of the machine as shown in the diagram above.
Insert the other end of the HP fax cable into the analog outlet on the ADSL microfilter.
Connect the PC to the ADSL modem according to their respective manuals. The ADSL modem can be external or internal to the computer; if in doubt, check the specifications of your computer.
Insert the ADSL cable into the ADSL outlet on the ADSL microfilter according to the guidelines of the ADSL manufacturer.

Please ensure all devices are turned on before continuing.
Make sure paper is loaded in the main tray and cartridges are installed correctly.
Follow the instructions in the set-up poster to set up your HP product.
Some HP fax models have a button on the control panel named Answer Mode for setting the fax answer mode. Set the answer mode to Fax by pressing and releasing the Answer Mode button until the Fax mode appears on the display.
Have someone send you a fax.
Send a fax to someone.

Insert the other end of this telephone cable into the wall-plug of the HP fax cable.Connect the PC to the ADSL modem according to their respective manuals. The ADSL modem can be external or internal to the computer; if in doubt, check the specifications of your computer.
Insert the ADSL cable into the ADSL outlet on the ADSL microfilter according to the guidelines of the ADSL manufacturer.

Insert the other end of this telephone cable into the wall-plug of the HP fax cable.The HP fax cable supplied, which is already in the ADSL microfilter, has a wall-plug attached in order to allow the connection of another analog device through the same ADSL microfilter.
Connect the PC to the ADSL modem according to their respective manuals. The ADSL modem can be external or internal to the computer; if in doubt, check the specifications of your computer.
Insert the ADSL cable into the ADSL outlet on the ADSL microfilter according to the guidelines of the ADSL manufacturer.
NOTE: When recording the Outgoing message (OGM) on your telephone answering machine, leave a short pause before speaking.
Ensure your message is clear and between 10- 20 seconds long, containing a silence of 5-7 seconds at the end.Consult the manufacturer manual for specific instructions on recording and re-recording messages.
Set the Rings-to-Answer setting on your HP All-in-One or Fax product to a number that is at least two greater than the telephone answering machine setting. For example, if the telephone answering machine is set to answer on four rings, the HP product should be set to answer on six rings.

Insert the other end of the HP fax cable into the analog outlet on the ADSL microfilter.
The HP fax cable supplied, which is already in the ADSL microfilter, has a wall-plug attached in order to allow the connection of another analog device through the same ADSL microfilter.
Since you are connecting two more analog devices, you will need to attach an additional phone splitter on top of the HP fax cable.
Insert the phone splitter into the HP fax cable wall-plug (this will be on the top).
NOTE: Please bear in mind that this additional phone splitter is not supplied with your HP All-in-One or Fax product and therefore, it should be purchased.Insert a telephone cable into your telephone according to the telephone manufacturer manual.
Insert the other end of this telephone cable into one of the phone splitter outlets.
Insert another telephone cable into your answering machine according to the answering machine manufacturer manual.
Insert the other end of this telephone cable into the remaining phone splitter outlet.
Connect the PC to the ADSL modem according to their respective manuals. The ADSL modem can be external or internal to the computer; if in doubt, check the specifications of your computer.
Insert the ADSL cable into the ADSL outlet on the ADSL microfilter according to the guidelines of the ADSL manufacturer.
NOTE:
When recording the Outgoing message (OGM) on your telephone answering machine, leave a short pause before speaking.Ensure your message is clear and between 10- 20 seconds long, containing a silence of 5-7 seconds at the end.
Consult the manufacturer manual for specific instructions on recording and re-recording messages.
