Manage it all

New mobility technologies are quickly emerging within the enterprise. The diversification of mobile devices and the fragmentation of mobile operating systems make securing and managing mobile devices and corporate data difficult. A service is required that protects company information and provides auditing compliance through efficient and flexible mobile device management.

Enterprise mobility is changing. Users, contractors, and partners are bringing their own devices and applications into the corporate world. This necessitates the need to formulate and govern devices through a standard corporate-wide mobility strategy, a strategy that will empower employees, but still grant the level of management and control required by individual enterprises.

A complete mobility solution

Mobile Management Services leverages knowledge, experience, and the ability to bring best in class technology to manage the entire mobile value chain. The service offers management and support for multiple device types including smartphones, tablets, and ruggedized devices. Android, iOS, Windows Phone, and Windows Mobile platforms are supported, with BlackBerry devices being managed through a separate dedicated service. MMS provides:

  • Configuration management ensures all managed devices are configured to comply with corporate guidelines. This includes mail settings, device security policies, restrictions for applications and use, corporate VPN and WiFi settings, and device enrollment.
  • Security management sets the security configuration of the mobile device, aligning with corporate security policies. Password and policy enforcement, on-device encryption, and remote lock/wipe capabilities along with other security functions are included. Certificate-based authentication also is supported.
  • Inventory management provides the IT administrator with a granular view into device hardware and software status. Several report options are available covering devices and applications under management, policies, and compliance.
  • Support management provides device and service monitoring and advanced troubleshooting. User self-service and advanced administration are included as well as support for escalated incidents.
  • Infrastructure management enables HP to oversee solution server infrastructure management and solution software operation. Patch, backup, and security management are included in this component.
  • Application management enables IT to centrally distribute, install, maintain, and support native applications. This option includes whitelisting and blacklisting. HP can also provide an enterprise applications catalog for in-house applications, built specifically for the enterprise.

A management strategy for any scenario

Most enterprises face a mix of mobile device scenarios that need to be supported. HP offers a number of defined management strategies designed to meet the requirements that best fit your needs, including integrating and supporting personal devices into the service. Within each of the strategies, or combination of strategies, HP can implement a solution including:

  • Fully managed devices— This strategy provides the highest level of control working from a list of supported devices with known and equal management capabilities.
  • Partially managed devices— Primarily for supporting BYOD, this strategy offers management capabilities that vary depending on the device platform and type.
  • Basic management— Designed to only allow access to corporate email, this option enforces security policies the user must agree to before being allowed access.
  • Unmanaged devices or service denial— Within this strategy, mobility service can be terminated for nonconforming devices.
