Mike's biography
Michael Lynch is executive vice president of Information Management at HP and founder and chief executive officer of Autonomy, an HP subsidiary. He oversees engineering, sales and marketing associated with HP’s Information Management portfolio including Vertica and Autonomy. He is also a member of the company’s executive council.
Under Lynch, Autonomy became the pioneering leader in analyzing unstructured, or human-friendly, information from which companies can extract meaning from all data in whatever format it is in, whether email, voicemail, social media, text messages or web pages.
Autonomy was borne out of research at Cambridge University, where Lynch studied information sciences, received a Ph.D. and held a research fellowship in adaptive pattern recognition.
Lynch is regarded as Britain’s most successful technology entrepreneur and has won numerous awards, including the European Business Leaders Awards’ Innovator of the Year 2008 and Management Today’s Entrepreneur of the Year 2009. He was awarded an OBE for Services to Enterprise in 2009.
Lynch is a fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, an honorary fellow of Christ’s College Cambridge and a non-executive director of the BBC, the National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts and the British Library.
