From its earliest conception, the HP Catalyst Academy was founded on the idea that online learning continues to be a new frontier. After years of working with dozens of institutions as part of the HP Catalyst Initiative, the core partners — HP, ISTE, and NMC — landed upon the idea of encouraging active online learning and engaging learning design among those most involved in it, teachers and faculty in some 45 countries.

In its initial year, the Academy emerged as a hands-on experience for thousands of educators, a place where new ideas are tested easily and quickly, where learners are teachers and vice versa. More than 35 mini-courses were developed, each serving an average of 100 students, and each a unique experiment in online learning.

The HP Catalyst Academy has now moved to the next phase of its development under the leadership of the New Media Consortium. The NMC Academy is a new and expanded form of this experimental testing ground that has opened its doors to a much wider set of innovative learning experiences for education professionals. The NMC Academy will continue into 2014 and beyond as a major initiative of the NMC.
