HP Helps Colombia’s UNE Improve Service Quality for Telecom Customers

PALO ALTO, Calif. -- HP Enterprise Services today announced that UNE EPM Telecomunicaciones is deploying HP network management technology to improve service quality for its business and residential customers.

UNE, one of the leading communications service providers (CSPs) in Colombia, selected HP to implement an operations support system (OSS) to consolidate service assurance for its many diverse networks, including fixed-line voice, voice-over-internet protocol, high-speed internet, cable TV, entertainment and business services.

UNE’s consolidated service assurance environment, known as the “Manager of Managers” and based on HP OSS Transformation solutions, enables the company to manage efficiently a multitechnology, multivendor, heterogeneous network environment.

The HP OSS Transformation solutions provide a single, unified view of all networks, which enables UNE – and its major business customers -- to identify problems more quickly and resolve them before they impact customers. With a highly automated, highly efficient service assurance system, UNE can deliver better service to customers, and thus reduce customer turnover or “churn.”

In addition, UNE is able to efficiently support more aggressive service-level agreements that can attract business customers.

The Manager of Managers project is part of a comprehensive UNE effort to increase both efficiency and customer satisfaction by consolidating all operations across converged telecom and IT domains. With a single architecture based on HP OSS Transformation solutions, UNE is managing both service fulfillment and service assurance. In the next phase of the project, HP Service Activator will be implemented to help UNE automate service fulfillment processes and reduce time to market.

HP provided UNE with all software, hardware, consulting and integration services, as well as a two-year contract for ongoing support and maintenance. The service assurance solutions deployed at UNE include:

  • HP TeMIP streamlines fault management and provides a framework for consolidating many network elements and management systems.
  • HP Network Node Manager offers IP domain fault management with automatic IP topology discovery, correlation and root cause analysis.
  • HP Performance Insight creates a complete service performance view by monitoring, analyzing and summarizing data from the network.
  • HP Operations Manager helps UNE identify problems by collecting and filtering events and alarms from IT systems.
  • HP Business Availability Center offers a single view of services and network resources, reporting, service discovery and synchronization.
