What you should know

Internship locations depend on your preferences and business need. See below for region-specific recruiting information.

Internships usually last between 10 and 12 weeks depending on your availability as well as business need.

Internship projects are designed to help you take on work that matters, build your network, and get a sense of what it is like to work at HP.

The purpose of the MAP internship program is to make sure you and HP are a good match and, if so, prepare you for a full-time position within HP after graduation. We want our MAPs to be the future leaders of HR at HP.

Full-time locations depend on your preferences and business need. See below for region-specific recruiting information.

You will complete three 8-month rotations. One of the three rotations will be outside your home country.

You will do meaningful work on projects based on real business need and your interests. Throughout your rotations, you will be able to build your network and strengthen your knowledge of key HR functions.

The purpose of the Management Associate Program is to give you a solid foundation of HR experience and knowledge, and prepare you for future leadership roles within HP.

What our people are saying

  • I was drawn to the HR MAP program for the promising scope it provides to diversify in HR. My confidence in the program was elevated much before joining the program with the stimulating experience I had going through a challenging interviewing process. I believe we learn the most working with the right people and an inevitable motivation to join HR MAP was the people who make it. It feels great to join the program with a sense of belongingness to the HR MAP community.

I construe HR MAP as a distinguished program for an upcoming HR professional as here you get an opportunity of being in the spotlight focus wherein the organization participates in your development by providing exposure to international working environment/ culture, manifold learning forums and guidance to steer your career decisions. This combined with self-responsibility can thrust you to break your own limitations and accomplish in unexplored areas of HR.

Shikha Tyagi Education: MBA, Indian Institute of Planning & Management, New Delhi, India; BBA, IIMT Academy, India Location: Dubai, UAE Current role:1st rotation - HR Global Services
  • I joined the HR Management Associate Program because of the company reputation, the impressive people I met, and the obvious investment the company and function was making in the program. Despite this, it felt like a risk as I saw my peers join companies with more established HR development programs. More than four years later, I couldn’t be happier with my decision. Through three rotations and two very different post-program roles, I’ve been stretched and developed.

I did an international assignment in Australia, and have a network of amazing peers from around the world. I’ve had amazing visibility to senior-level executives who continue to invest in my development. My experience in the program was amazing, but I’ve found the MAP brand continues to pay big dividends long after I finished my rotations.

Clark Jessop Education: MBA, Marriott School of Management, Brigham Young University; BA in Broadcast Journalism, Utah State University Location: Plano TX, USA Current role: HR Business Partner for Global Cyber Security
  • For me, the experience of being an HR MAP Intern has been one of great impact. It has given me the chance to work in a very diverse and challenging environment, putting me into contact with HR professionals both from the local organization in Romania, as well as the global MAP community. In these 3 months I got the opportunity to work on projects for the local organization, as well as global projects for the MAP community.

During this time, I was particularly impressed by the openness and willingness of people to offer their support, especially by the MAP population, which I see as being a global family that is always eager to help you achieve your objectives and build knowledge and skills.

Overall, I felt that this experience was very intensive and full of learning opportunities and I strongly recommend it to any young HR professional wanting to build their skills and network in a global environment.

  • My decision to join HP’s program was heavily influenced by how HR functions at HP as well as the type of people in the program. I wanted to surround myself with brilliant people, receive challenging assignments and learn more about HR in a technology company. The program and the opportunities it has afforded me have exceeded my expectations.

Rob Carter Education: MBA, Owen Graduate School of Management, Vanderbilt University; BS in Business Management, Marriott School of Management, Brigham Young University Location: Plano TX, USA Current role: 2nd rotation - HR Business Partner for HP Enterprise Services
  • In addition to working with great HR leaders, the MAP has also provided me with an incredible community of colleagues. I value the range of experience and insight found within the MAP community. That experience is constantly expanding with each rotation and as the program grows. It’s been a wonderful opportunity to be a part of it.

Melinda Wells Education: MBA, Marriott School of Management, Brigham Young University; BA English, Literary Studies, Utah State University Location: Bracknell, UK Current role: 2nd rotation - Enterprise Services Total Rewards
  • The three rotations lead me to realize something quite surprising. I found out it’s possible to function as an entrepreneur here - even in a huge global company such as HP. If you earn your manager’s trust by consistently delivering results, they’ll let you work on your own projects (of course some value added/cost saved is to be expected). There are weeks during which I spend most of my bandwidth working on things I made up... and that feels great!

Čestmír Rybka Education: MS, University of Economics, Prague Location: Prague, Czech Republic Current role: Global Talent & Rewards: Delivery and Analytics
  • As a company that truly values Human Resources as a strategic component for business success, HP is dedicated to create the best-in-class HR leadership program to drive long term talent development. HR MAP program gives me invaluable opportunities to explore various HR areas, which is critical in laying a solid foundation for my career progression. In addition, in this journey I had the fortune to work with many leaders and colleagues who went the extra mile to coach me, encourage me when I encounter roadblocks, and generally sharing their knowledge.

Libby Sun Education: Master’s in Education, Institute of Education, University of London; BA in English Language and Literature, Beijing Language and Culture University Location: Beijing, China Current role: Talent Management; Technology and Operations
  • During my summer as an HR MAP intern, I saw the strength and unity of the MAP group. It was refreshing to see so many motivated, driven people who were not only concerned about their own career progression, but in helping others as well. It seems part of the group success is in helping everyone reach their personal goals. The built-in network and relationships in this program are fantastic.

Trapper Yates Education: MBA, Marriott School of Management, Brigham Young University; BS in Business Management, BYU-Idaho Location: Plano, TX USA Current role: 1st rotation - Total Rewards for Enterprise Services
  • The roles I’ve had in the HR MAP program gave me fantastic insight into business and workforce opportunities and issues across Asia Pacific, and in-depth knowledge about global variable compensation for HP, which is one of the largest employers in the world. What I appreciate the most about the program is the opportunity to learn from experienced managers and mentors who are willing to give HR MAPs opportunities to drive projects as internal consultants would and create meaningful impact.

Lynn Loi Education: MSc in Industrial and Organizational Psychology and Management of Human Resources, Zicklin School of Business at Baruch College, City University of New York; BA/BE Double Degree in Arts and Mechanical Engineering at University of Melbourne, Australia Location: Palo Alto, USA Current role: 2nd rotation - Variable Compensation, Total Rewards COE
  • To me being an HR MAP means that you work with HR professionals that are best in class, you have access to amazing learning experiences and from your very first days at HP you can contribute to the success of the business. Going through 3 roles in different HR functions in just 2 years provides you a well-rounded HR experience that you cannot find elsewhere.  Real impact, challenging, rewarding – these would be the words that best describe the projects we build up together with senior HR and business leaders.

The uniqueness of the HP HR MAP program doesn’t rely only on its rotational structure, but also on the fact that MAPs from different corners of the world are a true family.
