How can updates be automated on HPE ProLiant and Integrity systems and infrastructure? Smart Update Manager (SUM) is an innovative tool for firmware and driver maintenance on HPE ProLiant and Integrity Servers, BladeSystem enclosures, Moonshot systems, and options. It provides a browser-based GUI or a command-line scriptable interface for increased flexibility and adaptability to customer needs.

SUM has an integrated discovery engine that finds installed hardware and current versions of firmware and software on target servers and identifies associated targets that should be updated in conjunction with each other, to avoid interdependency issues. It is preloaded with all relevant interdependency information from our extensive lab testing before each Service Pack for ProLiant (SPP) release.

SUM doesn't require an agent for remote installations because it copies a replica of itself to each of the target servers only for the duration of the installation.

What's new

  • Smart Update Manager (SUM) Versions 7.5.0 and 7.6.0 will support the new Gen9 servers, options and operating systems.
  • Enhancements include TPM module detection, AHS log enhancements, updates to the user interface and directory flexibility.

Increases Ease of Server Management

Smart Update Manager (SUM) provides a browser-based graphical user interface (GUI) as well as command-line scripting (CLI) and interactive CLI user modes for flexibility in how the update process is managed.

Integrated information on dependencies, including those of the Onboard Administrator and HPE Virtual Connect, based on extensive testing of each Service Pack for ProLiant (SPP).

In combination with Service Pack for ProLiant (SPP) and Maintenance Service Bundles (MSB), Hewlett Packard Enterprise delivers a complete solution for keeping HPE systems up and running with the latest firmware and drivers.

Deployment features including live logs which provide detailed information of target update process.

Increased Performance and Flexibility

Smart Update Manager (SUM) operates without the need for agents or other permanently installed software on the target nodes.

Scalable with iLO Federation and Federation groups to update multiple servers at the same time.

Baseline functionality including validation, assigning baselines in guided mode, dynamic filtering, filtering by server model and the ability to download baselines from http server.

Simplified Delivery of ProLiant System Software

Smart Update Manager (SUM) provides shorter qualification cycles for customers, due to extensive interdependency testing of each Service Pack for ProLiant (SPP) and pre-loading all interdependency results into SUM.

Extremely efficient architecture of the Smart Update solution leads to a powerful, yet lightweight application with excellent scalability both standalone as well as integrated with HPE SIM and HPE OneView.

Extensive support of online firmware and driver updates, requiring only a single reboot to activate which leads to minimal downtime.
