March 2015: IDC released a quarterly update to their Worldwide Quarterly Server Tracker, citing market share figures for the 4th calendar quarter of 2014 (4Q14).

Consider these telling facts:

Fact 1: HP continues to lead in the worldwide server market by revenue.

HP is the undisputed #1 in worldwide revenue for the 4th consecutive quarter. HP’s worldwide revenue share was 26.8% increasing the gap with #2 Dell to 10.1 percentage points.

 

Fact 2: For nearly 13 consecutive years, 51 straight quarters, HP is the #1 vendor in worldwide server shipments.

HP shipped a server every 12 seconds on average in the 4th calendar quarter of 2014. Overall in this quarter HP shipped over 112,000 servers more than Dell, 2.6 times as many servers as Lenovo and 8.1 times as many as Cisco.

 

Fact 3: HP leads the total Blade server market, with a 48.4% revenue and 44.3% unit share.

HP has led the blade server market in revenue and units for 33 consecutive quarters, more than 8 years straight.

HP gained 4.8 points of blade revenue share year over year and now has more revenue share than Cisco, Lenovo, Dell and IBM combined.

 

Fact 4: HP leads in combined Density Optimized and Blade servers with more than double (2.4X) the revenue share of its closest competitor, Cisco.

HP leads with 41.6% revenue market share in this segment, identified by IDC as a significant and growing market, driven by demand in public cloud hyperscale environments, as well as private cloud and integrated systems.1

 

Fact 5: HP ProLiant is the x86 server market share leader in both revenue and units for 75 consecutive quarters nearly 19 years. 2

Sustained market leadership is a hallmark HP ProLiant innovation. HP’s 31.3% revenue share is 10.2 points higher than #2 Dell and more than the revenue share of Dell and Lenovo (#3) combined.

 

Fact 6: HP leads in EPIC+RISC blade server revenue.

HP Integrity blades maintained the number one position in revenue for the RISC+EPIC blade segment with 79.4% worldwide share.

 

Fact 7: HP is #1 in Windows® revenue and units worldwide.

HP has a 38.1% revenue share of the Windows market and leads the nearest competitor, Dell, by 11.7 percentage points.

 

Fact 8: HP is #1 in Linux® revenue and units worldwide.

HP has a 21.6% revenue share of the Linux market and leads the nearest competitor, Dell, by 7.9 percentage points.

 

Fact 9: For the 3 major operating environments UNIX, Windows and Linux combined (representing 99.9% of all servers shipped worldwide), HP is number 1 worldwide in server revenue and unit shipments.
