December 2014: IDC released a quarterly update to their Worldwide Quarterly Server Tracker, citing market share figures for the 3rd calendar quarter of 2014 (3Q14).

Consider these telling facts:

Fact 1: HP continues to lead in servers worldwide by revenue.

HP is the undisputed #1 in worldwide revenue for the 3rd consecutive quarter. HP’s worldwide revenue share was 26.5% increasing the gap with #2 IBM to 8.3 percentage points.

 

Fact 2: For 12.5 consecutive years, 50 straight quarters, HP is the #1 vendor in worldwide server shipments.

HP shipped a server every 14 seconds on average in the 3rd calendar quarter of 2014. Overall in this quarter HP shipped over 77,000 servers more than Dell, 3.3 times as many servers as IBM and 6.9 times as many as Cisco.

 

Fact 3: HP leads the total Blade server market, with a 43.2% revenue and 42.5% unit share.

HP has led the blade server market in revenue and units for 32 consecutive quarters, 8 years straight.

HP shipped 1.9 times as many blades as #2 Cisco, 3.2 times as many as #3 IBM and 3.8 times as many as #4 Dell.

 

Fact 4: HP leads in combined Density Optimized and Blade servers with double (2X) the revenue share of its closest competitor, Cisco.

HP leads with 36.5% revenue market share in this segment, identified by IDC as a significant and growing market, driven by demand in public cloud hyperscale environments, as well as private cloud and integrated systems.1

 

Fact 5: HP ProLiant is the x86 server market share leader in both revenue and units for 74 consecutive quarters 18.5 years.2

Sustained market leadership is a hallmark HP ProLiant innovation. With the introduction of the new ProLiant Gen9 servers HP increased x86 server revenue year-over-year in 3CQ14.

 

Fact 6: HP leads in EPIC+RISC blade server revenue.

HP Integrity blades maintained the number one position in revenue for the RISC+EPIC blade segment with 79.7% worldwide share.

 

Fact 7: HP is #1 in Windows® revenue and units worldwide.

HP has a 35.4% revenue share of the Windows market and leads the nearest competitor, Dell, by 9.8 percentage points.

 

Fact 8: HP is #1 in Linux® revenue and units worldwide.

HP has a 19.3% revenue share of the Linux market and leads the nearest competitor, Dell, 4.7 percentage points.

 

Fact 9: For the 3 major operating environments UNIX, Windows and Linux combined (representing 99.9% of all servers shipped worldwide), HP is number 1 worldwide in server revenue and unit shipments.
