DDMC boosts its personalised printing capabilities with installation of HP Indigo 7500 Digital Press

BARCELONA, Spain, 12 December 2011 - DDMC, based in Raalte, Netherlands, and one of the country's leading digital commercial print suppliers, has strengthened its ability to compete in the short-run print and specialist paper markets by investing in an HP Indigo 7500 Digital Press.

The installation, due to increased demand for digital print, is the company's third HP press since DDMC was founded with an HP 1000 press in 2002. The new press complements the HP 5000 Series 2, acquired four years ago, for its offset division specialising in corporate stationery and sales materials.

"The installation of the HP Indigo 7500 strengthens our position at a time of significant market change.  We are now capable of delivering to a much improved standard of colour quality, yet at an affordable price also. This gives us a strong competitive edge in uncertain economic times," said Ronny Cents, managing director of DDMC.

Economic uncertainty has accelerated the trend towards shorter runs for commercial print, as businesses seek to reduce inventory costs and place orders on a more frequent basis.  In a typical day, the HP Indigo 7500 performs up to 20 jobs per day, mainly for business in the Overijssel province, varying from runs of just fifty to nearly 1,000 A3 copies.

The mainstay of the production on DDMC's new HP Indigo press includes greetings cards, brochures and books with highly restricted circulations. The company will also be able to meet the increased demand for personalised and serial number applications. "Popular orders include genealogy books, commissioned for as few as 50 family members, or commemorative publications for local associations and businesses, with personalised introductions, with a print run of up to 500," adds Mr. Cents.

Apart from the ability to perform short production runs, the press was chosen on account of its compatibility with a wide range of paper types, and its potential for high productivity. The press handles paper formats up to a maximum of 330 x 482mm and stock weights from 60 (uncoated) or 80gsm (coated) to 350gsm. "This has enabled us to become one of only a few Dutch printing houses capable of treating IDEM carbon paper used in business for replicating transaction statements and bills. We are already known as the only company in the Netherlands capable of sapphire coating all paper types, and this allows us to build further on our reputation as a specialist printer," said Mr. Cents.

The DDMC team has also commended the new HP Indigo 7500 for its outstanding full colour print quality, enabling it to achieve striking, clear images, continue to match the highest offset quality and eliminate the problem of resin blending.

Cents and his team maintain a streamlined workflow with HP's SmartStream Designer software, which provides end-to-end workflow management from job creation to fulfilment, and integrates efficiently with existing software.

"We have enjoyed a long, close partnership with HP. We have been delighted with the reliability and high performance of HP's systems, and have benefited from the fast response of the service team," said Mr. Cents.
