HP Helps myLoc Launch New webtropia Hosting Service for Consumers and Small Businesses

HP Moonshot Systems will enable managed hosting provider to offer its customers secure, flexible IT services on demand
DUSSELDORF, Germany, May 6, 2014 – HP today announced that managedhosting provider myLoc has selectedenergy-efficient HP Moonshot servers to power its new webtropiahosted server service for consumers and small business customers.

The world’s first workload-optimized micro servers, HP Moonshotsystems will deliver the speed, scale and specialization that myLocneeds to offer its customers secure, flexible IT services on demandwhile dramatically reducing space and power usage.

myLoc provides managed hosting solutions for consumers and businesscustomers, from a simple dedicated server to a complex server farmwith high-availability clusters, as well as co-location servicesand professional outsourcing solutions. The company operates morethan 12,500 HP servers in three self-owned, carrier-neutral datacenters in Dusseldorf, protected by the world’s largest Lampertzsecurity room.

“Our goal is to providecustomers with a perfect blend of individuality, reliability, costtransparency and value for money,” says Christoph Herrnkind,chief operating officer, myLoc managed IT AG. “Business growth of 20 percentper year puts pressure on our ability to manage space and powerconsumption, so we decided to move to ultra-dense, space-saving HPMoonshot Systems. Ultimately, this will give us 24 times as manyservers per square meter. As well as reducing our power costs by 60percent and space costs by 75 percent, HP Moonshot will eliminatecomplexity and save time thanks to features such as hot swappablecartridges and HP’s Integrated Lights-Outtechnology.”

Initially, myLoc has added one rack of nine HP Moonshot chassis,featuring HP ProLiant M300 and M700 Server Cartridges –the equivalent of 675 servers – to its existing HP ProLiant DL360/380 Gen 8 rack-mountedmanagement servers. The plan is to have 2,000 HP Moonshot serversinstalled by the end of 2014, and 5,000 by the end of 2015, all inthe same data center.

A game-changer for the future, HP Moonshot is designed and tailoredto deliver optimum performance for specific workloads. Theselow-power servers share management, power, cooling, networking andstorage.

As part of the new Moonshot-powered hosting service, 50TB ofstorage for myLoc’s growing amounts of data will be provided by anHP SL4540 Gen8 Server, a highly efficient converged design thatdelivers the right combination of capacity and performance in theleast amount of space, while a high performance HP FlexFabricVirtual Switch 5920v will ensure reliable, high-bandwidthconnectivity.
