Groupe CAT Selects HP to Optimise its Global IT Infrastructure
Under a new four-year contract extension, HP will help Groupe CAT put in place an efficient, cost-effective hybrid IT delivery model which will enable the company to continue its business growth while improving the reliability and quality of its information systems. The ability to access standardised IT services on a pay-per-use basis via the cloud will allow Groupe CAT to respond faster and more effectively to changes in the market.
Headquartered in Paris, Groupe CAT is one of the leading European independents in automotive transport and logistics, with more than 4,000 employees and annual sales of €1,024,000 million. Worldwide, Groupe CAT shipped more than 3.6 million new vehicles, 240,000 motorcycles and more than 702,000 tons of automotive spares and components for its customers’ strategic markets in 2014.
“In the face of extremely difficult macro-economic conditions, IT efficiency is an absolute priority for us, and this contract renewal presented a unique opportunity to improve and reposition services to meet our new business needs,” said Jean Pierre Guillin, Deputy CIO, Groupe CAT. “HP will help us put IT at the service of our businesses. A more flexible hybrid delivery model will not only optimize time-to-market and reduce IT spend, but will also guarantee the stability of our business applications and underlying technical infrastructure.”
HP will improve IT agility for Groupe CAT by carrying out a global PC refresh, migrating the majority of the company’s Microsoft Windows and Linux infrastructure to an HP Helion environment. A hybrid delivery model combining traditional outsourcing, virtual private cloud and public cloud will ensure stability and quality of service and align the company’s IT services with business needs. As a result, Groupe CAT will have the flexibility to respond rapidly and effectively to market volatility.
The transition to a more agile cloud delivery model will allow Groupe CAT to manage variations in volumes of activity in real time without impacting system performance. Under the new contract, Groupe CAT has the capacity to stop existing services as required or add new cloud services to support potential new acquisitions and customers.
In a progressive transformation of all Groupe CAT’s business applications, HP Helion Managed Virtual Private Cloud will host all eligible parts of the IT infrastructure, improve time to market with virtual server deployment in two hours, and deliver quality services against a variable budget on a pay-per-use basis.
In the first phase of the transformation, HP will carry out a global workplace refreshment, replacing desktop and mobile devices and providing managed public cloud access to standardised applications such as Microsoft Office 365 and Active Directory. This will improve employee productivity by making Microsoft Lync and SharePoint available to every user on five different devices for local or remote access.
“Groupe CAT, like other international enterprises which are operating in a very competitive context, faces constant pressure to improve efficiency, work smarter and deliver products and services in new ways,” said Sergio Colella, vice president and general manager, HP Enterprise Services EMEA South. “Thanks to HP, it is now possible to manage, secure and build a hybrid cloud. HP offers the technologies and services that these enterprises need to exploit cloud computing solutions and extend their IT systems with total confidence.”
