FotoKnudsen AS Increases Production Capacity with HP Indigo 7000 Digital Press

BARCELONA, Spain, 28 January 2010 - HP today announced that the largest photo-finishing company in Norway, FotoKnudsen AS, has installed an HP Indigo 7000 Digital Press to increase its production capacity and provide its customers with enhanced print quality.

Installed in August last year, Fotoknudsen AS's new press is used to produce large volumes of photo-products every day -  from single prints and calendars to photobooks and playing cards.

"We provide an extensive range of photo products, most of which are ordered online via www.fotoknudsen.no," said Ronny Kvalvaagnes, CTO/director of technology, Fotoknudsen AS. "The website has 850,000 registered users and we store about 300 million images for them in order to produce hundreds of personalised photo products. To continue to meet this increasingly high demand, we needed a reliable, digital press that would significantly boost our production capacity, without compromising on print quality. The HP Indigo 7000 Digital Press delivers just that, enabling constant, high-volume print production, and achieving productivity levels that are unlike anything we have experienced before."

The HP Indigo 7000 Digital Press offers up to 7-colour printing, providing the widest digital colour gamut with 4, 6 or 7 colours PANTONE® Emulation for true photo quality.

Kvalvaagnes continued, "Print-quality is essential when printing unique products for individual customers. If the customer receives something that is not of a high standard, they will notice and complain. Every business strives for total customer satisfaction and since we installed the HP Indigo 7000 Digital Press the number of complaints we have received has reduced by 90 percent and demand for our products continues to grow."

Entering new markets and setting new standards

Fotoknudsen AS plans to expand its variable data printing offering to include more B2B products, such as business cards and marketing collateral, and the company's HP print capabilities will facilitate this expansion.

"The new HP Indigo 7000 Digital Press is being used for the B2B additions to our product range, as well as for producing the consumer photo products. As the market for photo products, especially photobooks, is still maturing in Norway, we hope to be able to position our business as the number one provider in the country when demand reaches its peak.

"As such, we are already setting new standards in photobook production and have printed some enormous photobooks on our HP Designjet Z6100 Printer. The books are being used for marketing our services and despite the fact that they are 70cm x 100cm (approximately 27" x 39"), the print quality is still outstanding," said Kvalvaagnes.

Fotoknudsen AS has three HP Designjet Z6100 Printers which it uses for wide-format prints, posters and book covers. The HP Designjet Z6100 Printer has an embedded spectrophotometer(1) which ensures precise printer callibration(2) at any time and enables consistent colour reproduction, even when print runs are split between HP printers.

"When we install a new HP product at Fotoknudsen, we know we'll be introducing a reliable, high-performance printing solution that not only fits into our company's environmental policies but also provides consistently high-quality print. That is why, in our opinion, HP is the market leader in wide format and high-end digital printing," concluded Kvalvaagnes.
