HP Takes “SUMMIT ON THE SUMMIT: Kilimanjaro” to New Heights as Official Technology Outfitter

HP and Intel join climb to raise awareness of global clean water crisis
PALO ALTO, Calif., Nov. 12, 2009

HP today announced it willbe the official technology outfitter for SUMMIT ON THE SUMMIT:Kilimanjaro, with support from partner Intel Corporation.

SUMMIT ON THE SUMMIT:Kilimanjaro is a bold climb up the world’s highest freestandingmountain led by Grammy-nominated musician, philanthropist and“actionist” Kenna and his supporters Jessica Biel, Isabel Lucas,Lupe Fiasco, Alexandra Cousteau and other global influencers.

HP is bringing itstechnology expertise and fully integrated marketing muscle –including TV, online and social media resources – to SUMMIT ON THESUMMIT: Kilimanjaro. As partners and official technologyoutfitters, HP and Intel will raise awareness of the global cleanwater crisis, inspire individuals to join the cause and providepeople with the tools to actively participate in improving thestandard of living for those in need.

As part of its integratedcampaign to support SUMMIT ON THE SUMMIT: Kilimanjaro, HP’s latest“Computer Is Personal Again” commercial features climbers Kenna,Fiasco and Cousteau and the new HP Pavilion dm3t notebook PC, powered by Intel. The commercialmarks the first time HP has created a cause-related ad featuringmultiple achievers on-screen together.

HP and SUMMIT ON THESUMMIT: Kilimanjaro have unveiled a series of boot camp web filmsfeaturing Kenna and Fiasco to drive awareness about the upcomingclimb. The videos are available on the SUMMIT ON THE SUMMIT FacebookCauses page.

In addition, HP, along withIntel, will equip Kenna and the team with thin and light,ultra-mobile notebooks to stay in touch with supporters around theglobe as they make their ascent to the 19,340-foot peak of Mt.Kilimanjaro.(1)

Technology on theclimb

Once the climb begins, theteam will use the HP Pavilion dm3t and HP Mini 110 by Studio Tord Boontje with Intel processors tocapture, blog and share photos and videos from Mt. Kilimanjaro withsupporters on the official SUMMIT ON THE SUMMIT website www.summitonthesummit.com.(1)

The PCs, powered by Inteleco-friendly processors, are thin and light and energy efficient.Keeping with the focus on environmental causes, the HP Mini 110 byStudio Tord Boontje features a unique 3-D Imprint design inspiredby animals.

The base camp will beoutfitted with the high-powered HPTouchSmart PC to help track each climber’s progress, monitorweather conditions and capture every aspect of the climb. The HP MediaSmart Server will serve as backup storage for all theclimb team’s media content.

Gettinginvolved

SUMMIT ON THE SUMMIT:Kilimanjaro supporters will have an opportunity to observe theclimb and interact with Kenna and the team through Facebook, MySpace, Twitter and the SUMMIT ON THE SUMMITwebsite.

Supporters who wish tocontribute to the cause can sponsor a foot on the SUMMIT ON THE SUMMITwebsite. In addition, for every view of a SUMMIT ON THE SUMMIT BootCamp episode on the SUMMIT ONTHE SUMMIT Facebook Causes page, HP will contribute 100 litersof clean water to the cause. HP also will match donations madethrough Facebook Causes.

Visitors to the websitewill get a behind-the-scenes look at the preparation and trainingthat went into the climb from a series of web videos, keep track ofclimbers’ progress on a virtual online mountain with the help ofGPS trackers, and stay informed and interact with the team. Inaddition, fans can rock SUMMIT ON THE SUMMIT: Kilimanjaro computerskins to show their support for the cause.
