HP Acquires IBRIX to Extend Scale-out Storage Capabilities to Global Customers

HP and IBRIX todayannounced a definitive agreement for HP to acquire IBRIX, a leadingprovider of enterprise-class file serving software that includesdata protection, high-availability features and data managementservices for extreme scale-out, cloud and high-performancecomputing deployments.

Customers with large-scale,data-intensive application environments find that storageperformance often becomes a bottleneck for their workflows. IBRIX’ssolutions allow enterprises to easily and cost-effectively storemassive amounts of user-generated data.

With scalability to tens ofpetabytes, customers can gain control of exploding data growth andaddress application performance challenges in the most demandingenvironments. The advanced data management capability of IBRIX’sFusion software suite also allows customers to seamlessly addcapacity as their data or performance needs grow.

Founded in 2000, and an HPpartner for three years, IBRIX is privately held and headquarteredin Billerica, Mass. It has 53 employees and more than 175enterprise customers spanning the communications, media,entertainment, Internet, oil and gas, healthcare, life sciences,and financial services markets. The value of the transaction is notdisclosed.

Adding IBRIX’s software toHP’s portfolio further solidifies the company’s leadership in theemerging market of scale-out and high-performance computingstorage, cloud storage, and fixed content archiving. This market isgrowing at a compound annual growth rate of 20 percent peryear,(1) which is faster than both the network-attachedstorage and total external storage markets.(2)

IBRIX’s software iscurrently available with HPStorageWorks storage area networks (SANs), HP ProLiant servers, HP BladeSystem, and HPProCurve Ethernet switches and management software. Thecombination of IBRIX’s storage software with HP’s businesstechnology portfolio offers customers a full suite of products andservices from design, transformation and management of corporatedata centers to the most extremescale-out environments.

The transaction is subjectto certain closing conditions and is expected to be completedwithin the next 30 days. Following completion, the business will beintegrated into the StorageWorks division in HP’s TechnologySolutions Group.
