HP Showcases Technology to Help Federal Agencies Transform IT Environments

WASHINGTON, March 20, 2007

HP today announcedtechnology solutions designed to help U.S. federal agencies manageand transform their IT environments to optimize outcomes, lowercosts, increase security and mitigate risks.

Highlights of the offeringson display at FOSE 2007 include HP Virtual Connect, a prototype ofthe HP Common Access Card solution, the HP Teleworking solution andHP desktop PCs configurable to meet ENERGY STAR® 4.0 hardwarestandards.

At the expo, HP willshowcase a comprehensive technology portfolio for federal agencies,including consolidation services, data warehousing, data centermanagement, security, computing and imaging and printing solutions.The company will demonstrate more than 25 solutions and products atits booth and will host 22 unique educational sessions to explainhow HP can help the federal sector across its complexinfrastructure and service needs.

HP VirtualConnect

The recently launched HP Virtual Connect Ethernet and Fibre Channel virtualizationmodels for HP BladeSystem c-Class bolster HP’s AdaptiveInfrastructure offering, which is designed to help customers movetowards a 24x7, “lights out” data center.

Virtual Connect is designedto dramatically simplify network connectivity and common servermanagement tasks across the data center by enabling administratorsfor the first time to wire just once and then add, replace orrecover servers on the fly. In addition to lowering capital andoperating costs, the modules deliver simplified managementcapabilities that reduce the time it takes to execute these actionsfrom hours and days to a matter of minutes.

HP Common AccessCard solution

HP unveiled a prototype ofits Common Access Card solution, which enables secure imaging andprinting network authentication for public sector employees.Developed in response to the Homeland Security PresidentialDirective 12 to improve security, the solution includesenhancements to current and future multifunction print devices tosupport common access card capabilities. These include mandatoryidentification, physical and logical access capabilities, publickey infrastructure authentication, encryption and digital signingcertificates.

The Common Access Cardsolution is part of HP’s portfolio of imaging and printingofferings that streamline information workflows, optimizeinfrastructures and better manage secured networked printingenvironments and improve their workflows.

HP Teleworkingsolution

The HP Teleworkingsolution, also launched at FOSE, encompasses notebooks and servicesthat address federal agencies’ security needs and enable employeesto work from a remote environment. Employees participating infederal teleworking programs are able to save money ontransportation and increase their productivity and morale. Inaddition, disabled employees have the opportunity to pursuepositions within various federal agencies.

Since security is a keyconcern with teleworking initiatives, HP provides a comprehensiveportfolio of security features to protect notebooks, data andnetwork connections, including the TPM Embedded Security Chip,Smart Card Reader, the HP Biometric Fingerprint Sensor and the HPPrivacy Filter – a built-to-fit security filter that narrows theviewing angle with no blurring or image distortion so the screen isonly visible to the user.

ENERGY STAR 4.0desktop PCs

HP also showcased theindustry’s first business PCs configurable to meet the hardwarestandards of ENERGY STAR 4.0 – the new, stringent energy-efficiencyspecification from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

The HP Compaq dc5750 anddc7700 business desktop PCs are also the first desktops from a majorPC manufacturer to offer 80 percent efficient power supplies, whichare better for the environment and help customers reduce energycosts.
