HP and Convergys Announce Integrated Billing and Customer Care Solutions for Telecommunications Service Providers

Alliance Enables Leading Service Providers to Lower Costs and Increase Customer Satisfaction
PALO ALTO, Calif., and CINCINNATI, Dec. 16, 2002

HP (NYSE:HPQ) and Convergys Corporation (NYSE:CVG) today announced an alliance to provide telecommunications service providers with integrated billing and customer care solutions based on HP UNIX® technologies. Under an agreement signed by the companies, HP and Convergys will coordinate product development and jointly pursue marketing and sales opportunities worldwide.

The agreement brings together two industry leaders in the business support systems (BSS) segment of the telecommunications network and service provider market. Convergys' highly scalable and flexible billing and customer care products are pre-integrated and among the most advanced in the industry. HP, with 25 years experience in the network and service provider industry, is a recognized leader in integrating, deploying and supporting billing and customer care solutions.

The companies expect to leverage their leadership positions to deliver more value to their clients. In today's market of evolving voice and data services, providers are looking carefully at their business support systems to increase operational efficiencies, lower costs and reduce churn by enhancing customer satisfaction. The more powerful, pre-integrated billing and customer care solutions, such as those proposed by Convergys and HP, help to achieve these objectives.

For example, major carriers such as BT (British Telecom) Wholesale in the United Kingdom and Indosat Multimedia Mobile in Indonesia have deployed an integrated rating and billing solution from Convergys on an HP platform.

In addition, the agreement announced today builds on an existing alliance between Convergys and HP. Last year, HP selected Convergys as the first telecommunications billing company to participate in HP's Tru64 UNIX and Oracle's 9i Real Application Clusters Program.

Convergys and HP have developed a demonstration of a convergent pre- and post-paid billing solution based on Convergys' award-winning Geneva software and HP's Opencall Intelligent Network platform. The companies premiered the demonstration at the HP Software Universe Symposium in Lisbon, Portugal.
