HP Launches Legal Solutions Site

Web Site Provides Legal Professionals Convenient Access to Technology Resources
PALO ALTO, Calif., Nov. 25, 2002

HP (NYSE:HPQ) today announced a new Web site for legal professionals, http://www.hp.com/go/legal, featuring simple graphics and industry-specific content that delivers information about HP products and services for the legal industry. In addition, the site offers feature articles, tips and ideas, access to technology solution providers and other technology resources for the legal profession.

"One of the ways we are delivering convenience to small- and medium-sized businesses is by segmenting them into industry categories," said David Treadway, director of small and medium business marketing, HP Personal Systems Group. "This framework allows us to organize our products, services and partners in a more relevant way to customers who may share similar business processes, practices and challenges."

According to the 2001 American Bar Association Law Technology Resource Center Survey, only 19 percent of the law firms responding to the survey have extranets -- secure Web sites that allow firms to post documents and other data online and selectively share the information with clients, co-counsel or others. The survey revealed that only one in four lawyers knew whether or not their firm had an extranet.

HP partners with NetDocuments, a document management firm based in Orem, Utah, to deliver e-services that help law firms address internal document management systems, archival, extranet and case management needs.

"HP's legal solutions Web site is a significant resource that law firms can use to enhance their organizational effectiveness," said Leonard Johnson, vice president of marketing, NetDocuments. "The site delivers end-to-end technology solutions and access to partners, including NetDocuments, which support the legal industry."

The legal solutions Web site complements HP's other industry-specific sites targeting the real estate, accounting, graphic design and medical fields. Each of these service industries is largely composed of small businesses, facing many of the same business operations and productivity challenges of large companies.

To aid the legal industry, the new site features:

  • Expert insights that provide information about doing business more productively and efficiently;
  • Feature stories written by credible legal sources to enhance contextual understanding of specific technology applications;
  • Technology solutions that promote new technology innovations to help streamline business operations in the legal industry;
  • General business services that deliver information on purchase assistance, maintenance/operations, online services, and planning and implementation services for law firms;
  • Buying guides that offer tailored product solutions for customer needs and demonstrate how advances in technology can increase a law firm's efficiency and productivity;
  • A news section with articles on the latest HP products that can help law firms deploy state-of-the-art technology for the legal industry; and
  • Information on more than 10,000 products, accessories and services from HP, with clear links for quick access to purchasing and technical support options. Also, U.S. law firms that want to buy direct from HP or from a preferred local reseller can sign up to receive a free HP catalog and electronic newsletter.
