HP and Trans World Entertainment Offer Access to Specialty and “Long-tail” Titles on DVD

HP’s DVD manufactured-on-demand service now open for business
PALO ALTO, Calif., June 19, 2007

HP and Trans World Entertainment Corporation today announced an agreement that will give consumers access to a diverse catalog of movie, TV and specialty video content on DVD – titles not readily available today in stores or, in most cases, even online.

To date, there have been nearly 1 million movies and TV episodes created worldwide, yet less than 10 percent have been captured on DVD.

“Through this service, we’re enabling customers to tap into a vast selection of content that until now has been locked away in a Hollywood vault,” said Willem de Zoete, vice president and general manager, Digital Entertainment Services, HP. “There’s a tremendous market opportunity for long-tail content, and our agreement with Trans World Entertainment is a significant step in bringing a much broader selection of film, TV and specialty video content to consumers.”

Trans World Entertainment, one of the largest specialty music and video retailers in the United States, is the first company to use HP’s DVD manufactured-on-demand service. People can log on to Trans World Entertainment’s f.y.e.com online store ( www.fye.com) and place orders, choosing from a variety of titles. The order is then fulfilled by HP’s custom manufacturing facility, where it is processed within hours. Most purchases are fulfilled and mailed within 24 hours, and all orders include a DVD, full color packaging and an environmentally responsible mailing package that is “green” certified.

“We’re thrilled to be a pioneer in this effort and believe this agreement is an important step in developing new digital revenue opportunities that will enhance the sales of physical product,” said Jim Litwak, president and chief operating officer, Trans World Entertainment. “The addition of HP’s service builds on our strength as the leading seller of catalog products and further enhances our offering for our customers both online and in store.”

HP’s manufactured-on-demand services could be used to produce a DVD of any movie, TV show, sports event or other video content regardless of niche or obscurity. Content currently being targeted for release includes: classic and older TV shows never before released on DVD; foreign movies; specialty genres such as religion, education, lifestyle, health, food and sports; specialty cable TV programming; indie movies; and, recently broadcast TV shows and sporting events that have high relevancy in specific geographic markets or with specific consumer segments.

The service is a component of HP Video Merchant Services, announced in February, which enables retailers to fulfill the requests of consumers wanting video content in a variety of ways, including digital downloads, traditional packaged DVDs and emerging video formats such as HD-DVD and Blu-Ray discs.
