HP Launches Reduced Pricing Program for Members of Pri-Med Medical Education Organization

Small to mid-sized health care providers show preference for accessible, reliable HP solutions
HOUSTON, Jan. 20, 2005

HP has launched a new affiliate program for members of Pri-Med, a continuing medical education organization that offers clinicians the best available patient care practices enabled by current advances in research, treatment protocols and technology.

Announced today at the 2005 Pri-Med Southwest Conference and Exhibition, the program allows Pri-Med members to take advantage of discounted pricing on HP commercial products. As a result, health professionals affiliated with Pri-Med can enjoy savings of up to 10 percent on HP products, including printers, notebooks, desktop PCs, storage systems, servers, tablet PCs, and HP iPAQ Pocket PCs.

For many, this savings will jumpstart needed IT upgrades or the transition from paper to more efficient electronic processing. Members can visit http://www.hp.com/go/primed for details.

"HP's continued momentum with small and mid-size businesses in the health industry is reflected in our recent contracts totaling nearly $3 million with customers nationwide," said Tracy Siclair, healthcare solutions manager, Small and Medium Business, HP. "The health care professionals who have invested in HP's proven mobile and infrastructure technology are maximizing the point of care with patients while increasing medical efficiency."

New HP customers such as Applied Medical, Bryan W. Whitfield Memorial Hospital, Chamberlin Edmonds, Holzer Clinic, Memorial Hospital of Fremont, Ohio, and SecureCARE reference greater accessibility to vital patient data, increased product reliability, security and cost-efficiency as some of the key factors influencing their HP technology purchase.

"We saw a steady increase in health care technology spending in 2004, and 2005 spending is expected to increase eight to 10 percent," said Russell Morgan, president, Information Technology Solution Provider Alliance. "This is no surprise considering that technology has significantly improved patient satisfaction and reduced the frequency of errors. Today, we're seeing more health care organizations using technology to improve efficiency and productivity at the point of care, to comply with HIPAA regulations, to write prescriptions, and to perform electronic records management."

The HP SMB expertise center and services organization works along with the company's reseller partners, solution partners and systems integrators to help health care organizations plan and deploy mobile solutions and secure server and storage infrastructure.

"Our technology systems were antiques. We turned to HP and their solution provider, WAVEnet Technologies, Inc., for an IT solution that significantly improves our business by allowing our medical staff more time to spend with their patients over a secure network," said Tom Uhl, IT director, Bryan W. Whitfield Memorial Hospital. "The cost-efficiency and reliability of HP solutions are allowing us to improve patient care while enabling us to comply with HIPAA regulations where security deadlines are upon us."

HP and its partners offer a broad portfolio of innovative technology solutions to the health care community, ranging from solo practitioners to large hospital networks. Among the list of new HP SMB health customers:

  • Applied Medical, a provider of surgical products to enhance procedures and patient outcomes both clinically and economically, chose HP to improve its infrastructure and network. Applied, located in Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif., chose HP servers, printers and storage products to help keep its business top-notch and competitive.

  • Bryan W. Whitfield Memorial Hospital, a full-service hospital located in Demopolis, Ala., worked with solution provider WAVEnet Technologies, Inc., to build an HP-based IT infrastructure. The hospital's refreshed infrastructure will be built with future expansion in mind and will include HP ProLiant servers, desktop PCs, tablet PCs and switches.

  • Chamberlin Edmonds, health care revenue recovery specialists located in Atlanta, purchased HP desktop PCs through solution provider Carotek, which helped the firm plan, purchase and implement its HP server and storage technology solutions.

  • Memorial Hospital in Fremont, Ohio, is a state-of-the-art medical center with more than 100 doctors and more than 500 employees committed to the finest medical care while retaining a sense of community and devotion to the patient. Working with HP solution provider Agilysys Inc., Memorial's objective was to build an infrastructure foundation to enable physicians and medical staff to be more productive and efficient while reducing costs and improving patient safety and satisfaction. The hospital has implemented a cost-effective 10-gigabit network backbone using ProCurve Networking products by HP to facilitate the future movement of electronic medical records and support ever-expanding technologies. Memorial looked to Agilysys Professional Services to support its implementation process of HP OpenView management software, which helps the hospital manage service levels to critical care units. This requires effective, proven management tools like HP OpenView Network Node Manger, HP OpenView Operations and Service Desk. By beginning to lay the foundation for the future, Memorial Hospital is well-positioned to serve the present and future health care needs of the community.

  • Holzer Clinic, a 100-plus physician, multiple-discipline health care provider in eight locations throughout southeast Ohio, references HP's incorporation of the latest technology within its mobility portfolio, including security features, and access to the HP support team as the primary reasons the company chose HP. Holzer purchased more than 300 tablet PCs, 800 desktop PCs and 30 servers from HP in order to increase productivity and provide better patient care.

  • SecureCARE Technologies, Inc., based in Austin, Texas, is a leading provider of Internet-based document exchange and e-signature solutions for the health care industry. It chose HP's cost-effective and reliable solutions for use in both its production and office environments. Using HP ProLiant servers, HP LaserJet printers, digital projectors and business notebooks helped to make SecureCARE's operations as technologically sophisticated as much larger companies.
