YOU Can Win 15 Minutes of Fame

HP, in partnership with Project Greenlight, encourages people to share their stories through digital photos via launch of worldwide contest
PARK CITY, Utah, Sundance Film Festival, Jan. 19, 2004

HP Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Carly Fiorina and Project Greenlight executive producers Ben Affleck and Chris Moore announced a worldwide digital photography contest titled "YOU Take Five!" at the Sundance Film Festival Saturday.

The contest gives people from around the world the chance to become an on-set photographer for Miramax's third Project Greenlight independent film (which might also see them on television in the accompanying series set to air on Bravo) as well as earn a walk-on role in the movie and have their photo essay, or "YOUstory," featured in an HP (NYSE:HPQ) advertisement.

"Our partnership with Project Greenlight brings together the best of technology and entertainment to inspire and empower a new generation of filmmakers and photographers," said Fiorina. "Technology today is helping to democratize creativity. Through the 'YOU Take Five!' contest we hope to uncover many new and exciting artists."

The contest, sponsored by HP and in partnership with Project Greenlight, supports HP's $300 million advertising campaign, "YOU +hp," which was launched in late 2003 and is designed to inspire individuals to see the photo in everything. The campaign showcases HP's complete digital photography lineup - from cameras and printers to PCs, ink and paper.

"We are eager to begin our third Project Greenlight screenwriting and directing competition with the support of HP and excited to launch this global digital photography contest," said Affleck, co-founder of production company LivePlanet. "We believe that we share similar goals - Project Greenlight provides aspiring filmmakers the tools to bring their original movie concepts to life, and HP offers consumers easy-to-use digital photography solutions that allow anyone to bring their personal stories to life."

To enter the "YOU Take Five!" contest, people simply create a YOUstory by submitting five digital photos that tell a story and log onto http://www.hp.com/YOU to upload their photos via the submission form. The deadline for YOUstory submissions is March 31, 2004. All photo entries will be scored based on their originality, technical execution and narrative abilities. Those which receive the best scores will emerge as winners.

In May 2004, HP plans to announce one finalist from each of the following five regions: Asia Pacific, Canada, Europe/Middle East/Africa, Latin America and the United States. The top five regional finalists will each receive an all-expenses paid trip for two to the premiere of the next Project Greenlight movie, a walk down the "red carpet" at the premiere, access to a private cocktail party hosted by HP and a suite of HP digital photography products.

The Worldwide Grand Prize Winner, the person with the best score as determined by HP, will be announced from the set of the Project Greenlight film this summer and will receive an all-expenses paid trip from anywhere in the world to the set of the next Project Greenlight film to become the official on-set digital photographer of the movie.

The Worldwide Grand Prize Winner also will receive a suite of HP digital photography products to document his or her experience, a tutorial from a professional photographer and his or her YOUstory will be featured in an HP advertisement.

As a part of the "YOU +hp" ad campaign launch last fall, HP created an online photo gallery and invited consumers to submit and share their YOUstories. To commemorate the partnership with HP, Project Greenlight executive producers Affleck, Matt Damon and Moore have added their YOUstories to the photo gallery. Consumers can view these digital photos among hundreds of other consumer and celebrity stories, read the official rules for the "YOU Take Five!" contest, and submit their YOUstories at http://www.hp.com/YOU.

HP is also the official technology partner for the Sundance Institute this year. More information about how HP is supporting the celebration of filmmaking is available at http://www.hp.com/hpinfo/newsroom/press_kits/2004/sundance/.

Project Greenlight is a unique filmmaking contest, documentary TV series, and feature film produced by Miramax, LivePlanet and Bravo. Its goal is to give undiscovered filmmakers a chance to break into Hollywood. The winning screenwriter and director of this year's contest will be announced mid-2004 and awarded a $1 million production budget to make their movie. The film is anticipated to begin production in late summer/early fall 2004. The Project Greenlight series is schedule to air on Bravo, which is seen in 75 million homes, in early 2005.
