Press Release:

HP Delivers Wireless Technology to Sundance Institute

Emerging Artists to Benefit from Inspiring Natural Surroundings, Wi-Fi Environment at Sundance Institute's Summer Laboratories
PALO ALTO, CALIF., JUNE 11, 2003

As the preferred technology partner to Sundance Institute, HP (NYSE:HPQ) today announced it is providing a wireless environment to aspiring screenwriters and filmmakers participating in the Sundance Institute Summer Labs in Utah's Wasatch mountains.

HP technology, including Wi-Fi enabled Tablet PCs, HP notebook and desktop PCs, HP LaserJet printers and high-speed wireless "hot spots," will help support the development this summer of independent filmmakers, screenwriters, playwrights, film music composers and other film and theatre artists in Sundance, Utah, a 6,000-acre recreation and arts community at the base of 12,000-foot Mount Timpanogos.

Since 1981, the Sundance Institute Labs have provided an environment for artists to explore the boundaries of their work and develop their art, far away from the pressures of their respective industries. Held in a pristine mountain village, the Labs are designed to inspire a new generation of artists that pushes the limits of creativity.

"HP is a world-class leader in technology and their commitment to Sundance Institute has had a tremendous impact on all of our programs. The Wi-Fi technology that has been installed at the Labs creates a dynamic and collaborative environment that will allow Lab participants to maximize their time and experience," said Ian Calderon, director of digital initiatives, Sundance Institute.

"The technology that HP has provided creates an environment that allows our Filmmaker Lab Fellows to share, explore and modify ideas quickly, directly affecting the filmmaking process," said Michelle Satter, director, Sundance Institute Feature Film Program.

"For more than two decades, Sundance Institute has worked with emerging artists to create new avenues in filmmaking. HP is proud to leverage our technology partnership with Sundance Institute to become an integral part of this next generation of filmmakers, bringing them the technology that they need to support their creative growth in this inspired setting," said Allison Johnson, senior vice president, HP Global Brand and Communications.

Sundance Institute Lab participants will benefit from a uniquely creative environment and work under the concentrated guidance of veteran filmmakers and film professionals. At the same time, wireless technology from HP will allow them to freely develop new material anywhere throughout the Lab.

"HP has made a tremendous commitment to the creative programs and initiatives of the Sundance Institute, working closely with us to improve and extend our support for the artists we serve," said Ken Brecher, executive director, Sundance Institute. "From the Sundance Film Festival in January to the summer film and theatre labs their dedication and support has impressed us tremendously."
