FTD Invests in HP Technology to Upgrade Member Florists' Connectivity

New "+hp" Brand Campaign Ads Featuring FTD Premiere for Mother's Day, May 11
PALO ALTO, CALIF., MAY 7, 2003

Building on its ongoing commitment and support of member florists across the country, FTD has partnered with HP (NYSE:HPQ) in a technology and marketing alliance agreement.

As part of the agreement, FTD is working with HP to ensure FTD's 20,000 member florists have the opportunity to purchase customized Compaq Evo D500 series desktop PCs as well as monitors and printers to support the FTD Mercury 5.0 application.

"The new Evo D500 PCs from HP will help FTD member florists seamlessly process orders sent across the street or around the world," said Michael Soenen, executive vice president of technology, FTD. "HP understands the unique technology requirements of FTD and can provide the right cost and space-efficient technologies that help our member florists grow their businesses and achieve a great return on their technology investments."

Compaq Evo D500 series PCs were selected for their powerful combination of features, flexibility and manageability at an affordable cost. The PCs easily fit into environments where space limitation is a critical factor and are quick and simple to set up.

The FTD Mercury 5.0 application enables member florists to send and receive orders through the FTD Mercury Network, as well as execute other functions that reduce operating costs and drive revenue, including order management, point-of-sale, billing and direct marketing.

"By delivering quality technology and products, HP is helping FTD member florists meet their growing business needs," said Paul Gerrard, U.S. central region vice president, HP Americas. "HP has the right experts and business relationships in place to ensure a high level of support for FTD member florists, enabling them to focus on providing outstanding floral services to their customers."

ValCom, an integrator of information technology systems and HP partner, is working with HP to provide implementation support for FTD. ValCom will load software and configure each PC and then work with FTD to arrange deployment to member florists.

"Knowing FTD had a requirement to reduce IT costs without sacrificing business quality, we worked closely with HP to offer a collective package that offered both a competitive cost structure and superior account services," said Chuck Birmingham, president, ValCom. "Through our strong partnerONE relationship with HP, FTD will now have a true single point of contact and more support than they had with any other direct provider."

FTD Featured in "+hp = everything is possible" Campaign

As part of their marketing alliance, HP and FTD are collaborating to attract potential member florists to the FTD network. Working together, the companies plan to implement co-branded direct mail campaigns, leveraging the new technology offering to attract new member florists for FTD.

The partnering between HP and FTD is colorfully showcased in print and interactive banner ads that premiered this week in conjunction with Mother's Day on Sunday, May 11. The ads use flowers growing in unexpected places to illustrate how, together, FTD and HP make it possible for small floral shops to operate like a giant global corporation and get flowers from one part of the world to the other.
