Centrica Takes Better Control of IT with HP OpenView

Energy and Home Services Market Leader Improves Business Processes and Optimizes Return on Investment in IT with HP Service Management Software
PALO ALTO, CALIF., AND LONDON, MAY 22, 2003

HP today announced that Centrica, the leading provider of energy, roadside and home services in both the UK and North America, is migrating to HP OpenView Service Desk to manage critical support and service processes within their complex 30,000 end-user environment.

Centrica has chosen Morse PLC, a leading European technology integrator and HP OpenView Platinum Partner, to deliver two streams of its Service Delivery Initiative Program. The solution will ensure delivery of a robust, yet flexible operational model that can deliver high quality Infrastructure Technology (IT) services and reduce costs and downtime of business critical systems by 20-30 percent.

Centrica is a clear leader in the UK energy, home and roadside markets it operates in and is rapidly building a significant business in both Canada and the United States. A key component of the company's ability to manage issues arising from production systems and to deliver a high level of service to the business is in having effective problem, incident and change management functionality.

HP OpenView Service Desk not only offered Centrica the solution it needed to facilitate streamlined end-to-end problem and change management, it also provided the ability to capture, monitor and escalate alerts and incidents, replacing the existing Peregrine Incident Management solution. Service Desk also provided added value by allowing Centrica visibility of how issues would impact service-level agreements (SLAs) as well as providing easier access for remote and multi-users.

"HP OpenView Service Desk will allow us to implement an out-of-the-box ITIL-compliant toolset, so that our business processes can be implemented quickly and seamlessly," said Karen Gillespie, Service Delivery Strategy and Development Manager, Centrica.

The service management solution will enable Centrica to improve control of its IT, allowing it to work as any other business function in which investment can be measured on business outcome. Ultimately Centrica plans to streamline the interfaces between service delivery and its users. HP OpenView Service Desk is the tool that supports these business priorities and enables reduction of total cost of ownership (TCO) over time.

"This implementation is a clear example of how, by adopting HP OpenView and working with key technology integration partners like Morse, we enable our customers to optimize business performance, and at the same time lower IT costs and increase returns on investment," said Todd DeLaughter, vice president and general manager, HP OpenView Business Unit. "We take pride in assisting market leaders such as Centrica in improving customer service and their competitive position in global markets through the effective application of our industry-leading adaptive enterprise solutions."

Headquartered in London and employing more than 1,200 people across 30 locations in Europe, Morse is a technology integrator helping clients achieve business goals by reducing the risks associated with deploying and managing complex applications and systems. The company's offerings include business applications, architecture and planning, deployment and management and project management. More information about Morse is available at http://morse.com.
