Press Release:

SAP, HP and Vodafone to Collaborate on Mobile Enterprise Solutions

HANOVER, Germany — March 12, 2003

SAP AG (NYSE: SAP), HP (NYSE:HPQ), and Vodafone today announced a letter of intent to work together to bring to market a suite of mobile capabilities designed to increase the workforce productivity of large enterprises initially in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA). By combining mySAP™ Mobile Business solutions, HP's fully scalable servers and mobile devices and Vodafone's business connectivity solutions, the parties intend to offer business customers the opportunity to quickly mobilize their field sales and services forces. The announcement was made today at CeBIT, the world's leading trade fair for information technology, telecommunication, software, and services held in Hanover, Germany, March 12–19.

According to Lars Vestergaard, Research Manager IDC European Wireless & Mobile Communications, this collaboration is seen as a necessity to bring enterprise mobility to the next important level. "The demand for productivity-increasing mobile applications is now very real, but since we still are at an early stage it is very important that leading players work closely together to reach the optimal set of competencies."

"We look forward to collaborating with these premiere industry leaders through a combined effort that allows us to extend the reach and strengths of mySAP Mobile Business through the infrastructure and business connectivity solutions from HP and Vodafone," states Peter Zencke, executive board member of SAP. "By combining each company's expertise in its respective sector, it is our intention to create a single, integrated end-to-end mobile solution that speaks to any and all mobile business demands."

In today's economy, the pressure on companies to realize greater benefit from their IT investments has never been stronger. The ability to remotely access corporate applications, in real time, has been proven to enhance both workforce productivity and customer satisfaction, which in the current environment represents a real competitive edge.

"Working together with these major industry leaders, SAP and HP, it is our intention to develop easy-to-use, integrated mobile business solutions, which will be an important part of our business services strategy moving forward," said Thomas Geitner, chief executive, Global and Products & Services, Vodafone.

"Businesses want to take their information mobile -- not add incremental infrastructure," said Stephanie Perrin, EMEA vice president, Alliances and Solutions, HP. "Customers looking for mobile solutions share the need for access to accurate information, from existing systems, enabling better and faster decisions. HP is focused on helping customers build adaptive infrastructures to address their requirements. From our perspective, this partnership is about delivering that expected productivity."

These solutions are intended to establish new ways to interact with enterprise systems and empower new user communities to participate in collaborative business processes, with the aim of increased customer satisfaction, profitability and competitive edge. A prototype of the first phase of the solution is being demonstrated to CeBIT visitors by both HP and Vodafone (HP: Hall 4; Stand G 26) – (Vodafone: FG-G04, next to Hall 25; Stand D2).

HP intends to provide a complete range of technology and services depending on customers' existing IT infrastructures and requirements. At the front end, HP offers a full range of iPAQ Pocket PCs, notebook and tablet PCs, and mobile printers, which are already enabled to work with SAP® solutions. HP's range of highly available and scalable infrastructure platforms optimized for SAP solutions includes ProLiant servers, Itanium 2-based HP servers, Superdome servers, and AlphaServers. HP Services can provide a full range of consulting and integration, customer support, and complete managed services options.

SAP intends to provide mySAP Mobile Business solutions, which enable enterprises to mobilize their existing investment through a universal platform and ready-made scenarios to all popular devices, in both connected and disconnected environments. Already today, SAP is delivering mobile solutions such as, Mobile Asset Management, Mobile Sales for handhelds, Mobile Service for handhelds, Mobile Time, Mobile Travel, Mobile BI, Mobile Warehouse Management, and Mobile Direct Store Delivery. These solutions establish new ways to interact with enterprise systems and empower new user communities to participate in collaborative business processes. This results in increased customer satisfaction, profitability, and competitive advantage.
