HP ProCurve Continues Industry Leadership in Switch Growth

Dell'Oro Report Shows HP ProCurve Networking Outpaced Market and Competitor Growth in Fourth Quarter
PALO ALTO, Calif., Feb. 26, 2003

HP ProCurve Networking was the fastest growing layer 3 Ethernet switch vendor for the fourth quarter of calendar year 2002, according to research results from the Dell'Oro Group.(1)

The report, which examines the Ethernet switch market, revealed that the HP ProCurve networking business grew at a rate of 89 percent from Q3 2002 to Q4 2002 in terms of layer 3 port shipments, outpacing every competitor, including Cisco, Nortel, Extreme and 3Com. HP ProCurve also surpassed the layer 3 switch market as a whole, which grew 32 percent for the quarter.

The report also said that for the same period, HP ProCurve Networking, with a growth rate of 21 percent, grew faster than the market and all tracked competitors in layer 2 modular 1000 port shipments.

"Many of our customers realize that the advanced applications they are considering or deploying such as security, mobility and VoIP require layer 3 functionality at the edge of their networks," said John McHugh, vice president and general manager, HP ProCurve Networking Business Unit. "This market share growth represents how quickly our broad range of affordably priced, advanced layer 3 products are being adopted by customers."
