HP, Starbucks Coffee Company and Best Buy "Team Up to Clean Up" for Earth Day

PALO ALTO, Calif., April 15, 2003

HP (NYSE:HPQ), Starbucks Coffee Company (Nasdaq:SBUX) and Best Buy (NYSE:BBY) today announced "Team Up to Clean Up" Earth Day events to be held on April 22 at the Starbucks Support Center in Seattle and on April 26 and 27 at Grand Central Terminal in New York City.

The "Team Up to Clean Up" events provide consumers an opportunity to recycle used computer hardware and other consumer electronics in an environmentally safe and responsible manner free of charge.

"HP is a leader in environmentally responsible recycling programs. Our state-of-the-art facilities recycle unwanted hardware in an environmentally sound manner. Essentially, we turn end-of-life products into reusable commodities to reduce the burden on Earth's resources," said Renee St. Denis, HP's Product Recycling Solutions manager. "These Earth Day events provide a great opportunity to raise awareness of hardware recycling generally and help us explore and test further innovations as we continuously improve our environmental program."

"Many of our customers and partners (employees) are computer-savvy and are continually upgrading to own the latest technology. It is natural for Starbucks to provide an opportunity for our customer and partners to recycle their used personal hardware in a responsible manner."

"Team Up to Clean Up" uses HP's Planet Partners technology recycling service, which includes evaluation for reuse or donation and state-of-the-art, environmentally sound recycling. Computer equipment collected at the events will be transported to HP's recycling facilities in Roseville, Calif., and La Vergne, Tenn., which currently process approximately 3 million pounds of equipment each month. The service is available for any manufacturer's products ranging from PCs and printers to servers and scanners.

The "Team Up to Clean Up" events launch Best Buy's annual recycling program. In conjunction with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Best Buy will host up to 20 consumer electronic recycling events across the country this year.
