HP Strengthens Industry-leading UNIX Portfolio with New Server Line

New 05 Series Offers Superior Functionality and Performance While Reducing Total Cost of Ownership

HP (NYSE:HPQ) today extended its industry-leading UNIX® server portfolio by introducing HP's 05 series, a new range of servers spanning from 1 to 8 processors running the HP-UX operating environment. Designed for departmental and data center environments, HP's 05 series servers deliver a combination of enterprise-class performance, availability, manageability, and investment protection with reduced start-up costs that results in low total cost of ownership.

HP's 05 series servers offer a broad range of standardized configurations that are easy to order and quick to deploy. They are available in three models: the HP Server rp2405 with 1 and 2 processor configurations; the HP Server rp5405 with 2 and 4 processor configurations; and the HP Server rp7405 with 2, 4 and 8 processor configurations. All the servers are powered by the high-performance PA-8700 processor and run HP-UX 11i, the No.1 UNIX operating environment, as rated by D.H. Brown and VAR Business magazine.(1)

"Customers demand optimized performance and the highest levels of availability and manageability, but are closely scrutinizing costs," said Mark Hudson, worldwide marketing manager, HP Business Critical Systems. "The 05 series gives these customers the functionality, performance and reduced total cost of ownership they require and, as a result, deliver superior value to customers than our competition's products."

"HP, Avnet Hall-Mark and its partners are committed to delivering value to our customers," said Eileen Gibson, vice president customer marketing, Avnet Hall-Mark. "HP's 05 series offers resellers new business growth opportunities with investment-sensitive customers. Resellers can lead and win with HP."

Unmatched Availability, Manageability, Investment Protection

HP's 05 series servers deliver the most comprehensive enterprise-class high availability in the UNIX market. It supports state-of-the-art core high availability technologies, such as dynamic processor and memory resilience, memory chip spare, as well as industry-leading integration of HP MC/Serviceguard with business applications. Additionally, the advanced HP Event Monitoring Service provides fault avoidance, detection and notification.

The new servers also include unparalleled manageability capabilities for optimizing the management of multiple applications with dynamic partitioning and goal-based HP Workload Manager software. The combination of comprehensive high availability and manageability features strengthens the servers' ability to meet a business' service-level objectives, improve resource utilization and lower the total cost of ownership.

In addition to high availability and manageability, HP's 05 series servers offer unmatched investment protection. All are in-chassis upgradeable to new PA-RISC processors, and the HP Servers rp7405 and rp5405 are also in-chassis upgradeable to future Intel® Itanium® processors. These processor upgrade paths help support customers' business growth and performance needs beyond their initial investments.

"There's certainly a need in the market for systems that add real value to a business in terms of price/performance," said Dan Morales, managing director of financial systems, Continental Airlines. "The HP 05 series will provide customers with the high availability and manageability they expect from HP and, at the same time, is an affordable solution that will align well with strict budget requirements."

Estimated U.S. list prices start at $4,795 for the HP Server rp2405, $29,026 for the HP Server rp5405 and $50,595 for the HP Server rp7405.(2) These estimated prices include PA-8700 processors as well as memory, disks, I/O and pre-integrated HP-UX 11i operating environment.
