BEA Systems and HP Team to Deliver Integrated Solutions to the Enterprise

Companies To Jointly Market BEA's Application Infrastructure Software Across All HP Hardware Platforms

Building on the strength of their existing relationship, BEA Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: BEAS), the world's leading global application infrastructure software company, and HP (NYSE: HPQ), a leading global provider of products, technologies, solutions and services to consumers and businesses, today announced that the two companies are expanding their efforts to jointly market, sell and deliver integrated solutions, including hardware, software and services, across all HP operating systems. The systems include HP-UX, OpenVMS, NonStop Kernel (NSK) and Tru64 Unix on current standard platforms and future Itanium platforms, as well as Windows 2000, Windows NT and Linux.

Under the terms of the agreement, the companies have named each other as preferred strategic partners. BEA and HP will jointly identify and deliver J2EE e-business solutions using BEA's application infrastructure solutions for joint enterprise customers. HP will become a preferred strategic systems integration partner of BEA with a dedicated team of BEA-certified consultants and HP-UX will become BEA's first enterprise-class UNIX operating environment supported on the Itanium processor family. The expanded relationship will further HP's enterprise integration offerings, helping enable customers to deploy seamless business process applications to maximize existing infrastructures and create high returns on investment. Additionally, HP is evaluating the BEA WebLogic JRockit Java Virtual Machine (JVM), with the potential to standardize on JRockit across HP's enterprise servers for all operating systems and server lines for the Intel architecture.

"BEA is excited to be working with HP to provide our joint customers with one of the most powerful, integrated and cost effective multi-OS, multi-platform enterprise solutions available on the market today," said Scott Dietzen, chief technology officer, BEA Systems. "All of this, combined with HP services focused on BEA products, will allow our joint customers to immediately take full advantage of the power that our solutions offer."

"BEA Systems' leadership in the application server market makes them a natural choice for our enterprise customers since they are able to deliver highly scalable, industry-leading e-business solutions that support HP's multi-OS strategy," said Peter Blackmore, executive vice-president, HP enterprise systems group. "We are delighted to be working together to accelerate the adoption of the Itanium processor family in the market, and as J Rockit, BEA's Java Virtual Machine, is well-suited to drive market momentum in the IA-32 and Itanium space HP is looking forward to taking advantage of this technology."

In addition, as part of the agreement, HP will be a BEA preferred strategic partner for services management via HP OpenView. HP OpenView is an industry-leading software portfolio for managing and optimizing services over IT, voice and data infrastructures.
