HP Customers Benefiting from World-class Server Migration Programs

Programs Offer a Comprehensive Package of Discounts, Incentives and Services for Seamless, Cost-effective Transitions

HP (NYSE: HPQ) today announced that a wide range of large enterprise, small- and medium-sized business customers and independent software vendors (ISVs) have embraced HP's e3000 server migration initiatives. HP is offering these businesses a comprehensive array of migration services and incentives to ease their transition to other HP platforms.

After announcing the five-year plan for the HP e3000 server series last November, HP immediately began working with e3000 customers and partners to offer assistance and transition paths to other HP platforms. Customers such as Ceridian, CT3, Inc., Multnomah Education Service District and Tenex are just a few that have already migrated successfully. The top 11 U.S. ISVs and the top five European ISVs also have committed to transitioning their applications and installed customers from the e3000 to HP-UX.

"Ceridian's migration from the HP e3000 to the HP 9000 was a success," said David Goodman, senior vice president of Product Development, Ceridian. "What we did was the right thing to do. Ceridian is much better off than it was before. The HP people were great, and they built a solid team that stuck it out until the project was completed."

Key components of HP's e3000 migration programs include:

  • Complimentary initial transition assessments aimed at helping e3000 customers evaluate their current environment to help determine the best alternatives;
  • Loaner systems for qualified customers;
  • Comprehensive migration training curriculum and educational programs including Webcasts, extensive on-demand system training and in-depth classroom courses;
  • Software incentives including free HP-UX 11i base operating environments with e3000 server trade-ins;
  • Free hardware conversion kits;
  • e3000 server and storage trade-in programs;
  • Special services and financing promotions ranging from hardware financing to complete solution financing;
  • "3 for 3 support" promotion (three months free support with the purchase of a three-year support contract on e3000 upgrade or replacement servers);
  • Free "invent 9K" timeshare access, allowing customers and partners to evaluate, develop and test on HP-UX 11i before purchasing a system.
HP also offers a new partner program to deliver migration tools and services tailored to small- and mid-market customers. The Platinum Program is aimed at providing qualifying customers with comprehensive solutions, tools and services. Speedware Inc., Lund Performance Solutions, MB Foster and Managed Business Solutions, members of the North America Platinum Program, provide focused transition services, support and training to customers transitioning from e3000 servers to other HP platforms.

In addition to the sales and support of key migration tools, Platinum Partners deliver strong MPE/iX, HP-UX, Linux and Windows® expertise to help HP e3000 authorized resellers provide their customers with full transition solutions.

HP e3000 user Virginia International Terminals Inc. (VIT) of Norfolk, Va., also is taking full advantage of HP's migration services, programs and incentives. VIT is partnering with Speedware to successfully transition from MPE/iX and the e3000 to HP-UX.

VIT is taking advantage of HP's "Loaner Box" program to conduct its migration to the HP rp8400 as well as training discounts on HP-UX administration courses for the organization's computer operations staff.

To ensure that customers have time to plan and transition to other HP platforms, HP will continue to sell HP e3000 servers until Nov. 1, 2003. During that time, HP plans to provide enhancements, including new processors and storage solutions. HP also will provide a broad portfolio of support services for the e3000 servers until Jan. 1, 2007.
