North America's Toughest Women's Cycling Race Renamed HP Women's Challenge

HP Women's Challenge Set for June 13-24, 2001

Women's Challenge, Inc. and Hewlett-Packard Company (NYSE: HWP) today announced that the HP LaserJet Women's Challenge Cycling Race, the premier annual women's cycling event in the country, has officially been renamed the HP Women's Challenge. The name change, effective immediately, has been incorporated in the race web site address (womenschallenge.com), the logo for the event and will be used throughout HP's sponsorship of the event through 2002.

Now in its 18th year, the HP Women's Challenge is one of the world's toughest races, both for the caliber of the field and the demanding nature of the courses. Considered to be the premier cycling event for women, riders compete for individual and team prizes worth a total of $128,000, the richest purse in North American cycling regardless of gender. The confirmed dates for the 2001 HP Women's Challenge are June 13-24, and the race will once again begin in Boise, Idaho.

"We are pleased with the new name, logo and web site address," said Jim Rabdau, executive director of the Women's Challenge, Inc., the race's governing body. "Cycling enthusiasts and fans, as well as those new to the sport and race, will be able to more easily locate us on the web to obtain the latest race and event information and statistics."

"HP's support and commitment to the race is company-wide, and we wanted the race's name to reflect this," explained Doug Johnson, vice president and director of marketing, HP Imaging and Printing Systems.

The 2001 event will cover over 688 miles of terrain during 12 days. The race will be sanctioned by the USA Cycling and the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) and contains 13 race stages including grueling climbs, circuit races and timed trials. Beginning March 1, race and event information, including the virtual press-room, details of the racecourse and participating teams will be available at www.womenschallenge.com. An electronic copy of the new logo is available upon request.
