HP's Digital Imaging Technology Reaches New Levels of Affordability

New HP Color Printer, Scanner and Photo Papers Bring Digital Imaging to the Masses

PALO ALTO, Calif., Jan. 14, 20

Hewlett-Packard Company (NYSE:HWP) today introduced a color inkjet printer and color scanner that are ideal for people who have wanted to explore digital photography, but have found it to be too expensive. With estimated U.S. retail prices of $99 and $199(1), respectively, the HP Deskjet 920c color inkjet printer and HP Scanjet 5400c color scanner extend HP's premier technologies to a rapidly growing segment of the digital imaging market: budget-conscious consumers.

Whether in a dorm or in a den, the new printer and scanner coupled with HP's new photo paper are ideal for value-conscious consumers who demand the quality and reliability they have come to expect from HP.

For the first time, HP is enabling consumers to print greeting cards, banners, brochures and photos at 2400 x 1200 dots-per-inch (dpi) color resolution on HP photo paper in a printer priced below $100. Additionally, the new scanner features HP's innovative scanning technology -- previously only available in HP's higher-priced scanners -- that provides remarkable image quality and speed.

"Digital imaging has made ground-breaking advances into the consumer market over the past couple of years," said Kristy Holch, principal, InfoTrends Research Group. "It is encouraging to see that companies like HP are delivering products with leading technology at very affordable prices."

The HP Deskjet 920c color inkjet printer produces stunning photo-quality color output at 2400 x 1200 dpi and prints at speeds of up to 9 pages-per-minute (ppm) in black and up to 7.5 ppm in color. The printer also offers a 100-sheet fold-up paper tray to conserve valuable desktop space and a print-cancel button and low-ink indicator to help save time and money.

The HP Scanjet 5400c color scanner allows consumers to scan at up to 2400-dpi with true 48-bit color to produce fast preview scans in as little as eight seconds. The scanner includes technology which features two sensors that enable consumers to quickly and easily capture detailed color photos and lower resolution text. Routine tasks are made simple and clear thanks to the scanner's front-panel buttons: Scan, Photo Reprint, E-mail, Copy, Share-to-Web, Cancel, Options and Power Save.

The HP Deskjet 920c color inkjet printer and HP Scanjet 5400c color scanner are expected to be available in late January.

HP's Best Photo Papers

HP also announced an update to its popular HP Premium Plus Photo Papers in 8.5 x 11 size. With a sturdy nine-mil thickness, the photo papers offer outstanding image quality and contrast, including vividly lifelike colors and glossy, deep blacks.

The improved photo papers are ideal for high-resolution digital photos and reprints, providing a look and feel virtually indistinguishable from traditional silver halide photographs. Designed to work with HP inks and inkjet printers, HP Premium Plus Photo Papers are perfect for displaying professional-quality color and realistic skin tones.

Available worldwide, HP Premium Plus Photo Papers are part of HP's best-selling photo paper lineup and offer long-lasting prints. They are ideal for sharing family photos and important events, creating photo albums or performing a variety of creative and business applications.

Estimated U.S. retail prices for HP Premium Plus Photo Papers range from $7.99 to $39.99(1) depending on size and quantity.
