HP Named a “Leader” in Magic Quadrant Report for IT Asset Disposition

PALO ALTO, Calif. -- HP today announced it has been recognized as a “leader” in Gartner, Inc.’s inaugural North America Information Technology Asset Disposition (ITAD) Magic Quadrant Report.(1)

The report evaluates best practices in disposing of enterprises’ old or unwanted IT assets, given data-security and environmental (e-waste) concerns. HP’s Asset Recovery Services program is managed by HP Financial Services, the company’s leasing and life cycle asset management services division.

According to Gartner, “ITAD service providers have become an important link in the overall life cycle management of IT equipment. Indeed, the number and complexity of legislative mandates – often country/region specific – that cover the secure and environmentally proper disposal of IT equipment are growing rapidly, and the consequences of non-compliance are quickly gaining board-level attention.”

“Helping clients manage the risk of older or unneeded IT equipment is something we’ve done for years; it’s part of our DNA,” said Irv Rothman, president and chief executive officer, HP Financial Services. “In addition, when older assets can be refurbished and remarketed, we may even be able to provide clients a financial return.”

Last year HP Financial Services managed more than 1.3 million units in secondary markets, including enough notebook PCs to cover more than four football fields – plus end zones.

As an asset management services company, HP Financial Services enables clients to intelligently and economically manage their business technology investments across the full IT portfolio – from planning and acquiring technology to replacing and retiring it.

Gartner’s Magic Quadrant report notes that leaders “execute well against their current robust vision, and are well positioned for the future. The vendors in the Leaders quadrant register the highest scores on Ability to Execute and Completeness of Vision. These vendors have wider geographic coverage, both within North America and globally. Significant weight is placed on geographic coverage through direct, owned and operated facilities (vs. indirect coverage through partners), with special emphasis on North America. While this Magic Quadrant specifically evaluates the North American ITAD marketplace, our research indicates that many North America-based multinational enterprises place significant value on a robust international ITAD presence. Vendors in the Leaders quadrant are also characterized by comprehensive sales organizations, financial stability, a clear and consistent commitment to the ITAD market, comprehensive customer support, broader service portfolios, and larger market presence.”
